Since I got my bike in March, I've never bothered checking the tyre pressures - I assumed they were set correctly during the pdi and checked at the first service. They bike felt fine and I never had a problem with grip.

Anyway, I checked them today and they were 2.5 bar and 2.9 bar respectively. I checked in the manual and these are the pressures for two-up riding. So, I decreased the pressures to the solo riding settings - 2.2 bar and 2.5 bar. Went for a 65-miler and first impressions are that the bike handles slightly worse, but it could be that I've just got used to the higher pressures.

I'd be interested to know what pressures others are using. I've got Tourances on and weigh 15 stone with all my kit on. Cue advice on dieting... :D

Cheers,

Malc

I think the dealer was right in setting the pressure at that level ... they were just being polite not to mention it to you :D

You probably had the right tyre pressures in the first place for the weight of human flesh on board. Not being rude (well, not much :D ) but 15 stone is a bit more than the average and probably quite a bit more than BMW planned the single rider setting on.

So put your bike back to the old pressures and go and celebrate with a bag of doughnuts.

I was told to check the pressures when the tyre's are cold .

When warm the pressure is greater and gives a higher reading :spitfire

Prefer mine with les pressure than stated though :thumb

Hell that's over 3 months without checking the tyres    , you should do it before every ride, and check for nails etc. your life depends on it!
I was told that usually the manufacturers recommended tyre pressures are a bit more than you need, try an e-stop and see what the front tyre does, if it doesn't squirm let out a bit of air and try again, if it does put a bit back in.

I hope so, I checked mine every week without fail sometimes more offten, also checked for nails, etc. :thumb

Thanks for the responses. :) I think I'll revert to the higher pressures, given the 15 stone loading :D It is, of course, all muscle ;)
