Tyre seal cannistered sperm of the Devil?

Got my new Tournaces fitted today at Guildford Tyres (not cheap, but efficient service and nice blokes).

They reckon that the above shags up yer rims over time, as it eats into the alloy.

New one on me - any thoughts?

More likely to have sold the bike before that would be a problem for me

Yeah - but for people who don't have 1200s...

Or ask the question, Do i want to be suck in middle of no where with a flat? Or am i going to believe the guy who sells tyres for a living. Bit of a no brainer?

I've heard that as well. But I'm new to this tubeless thing. So my opinion doesn't count for much I reckon...

Err yeees. Unless he's right of course. And you don't need sealant to mend a puncture, you use the puncture repair plug kit under the seat.

Or just believe the guy who sells the tyre seal. He'll be on hand to give you your money back when the stuff fails to work .
Another no brainer

How often do you change your tyres? I have used Ultraseal for two tyre changes on tubeless tyres with no adverse effect - 20k miles or 12 months. Give it a go and keep an eye on them if you are worried

And yes the sealant vendor gave did me a free refill when it partially failed once - nail went in head first and did not hold pressure once removed - got me home though and to the tyre shop.

I too had tyre seller telling me that wheel bearings went. It is as well to extend teh small courtesy to forewarn them when you do get a tyre change so they dont get it in their face when they break the seal.

Thought I would add this comment after recent events.

There's me riding across Switerzland on Sunday and picked up an inch long staple in the rear, being two up thought the back end had gone "soft" so stopped in next garage closed. Fortunately for me some fellow GS'ers and tourers there, checked tyre pressure had lost approx 10 psi duly added back the lost pressure and the tyre has done a further 1000 miles. In the end ultraseal saved a lengthy wait for recovery, the lost of a days riding/touring and possibly buggered up holiday, so for me it is ultraseal all the way.

And to be honest it may affect rims in years to come but I will not have the bike then so why should I care :nenau

i used the repair can type of sealant in a tyre that was on a magnesuim Dymag wheel.

Didn't touch that - and that was in there for a while.

But i have also seen ally rims with black pitting from a similar stuff - but it doesn't affect the strength.
Its a bstard to clean off tho.

Nearly all the tyre fitters I have used do not recommend Ultraseal and when questioned it is basically because the tyre manufacturers do not like it. The reasons for that have nothing to do with wheel rims.

Show me some actual proof in a controlled test that the rims are damaged please. Until then its just another unfounded rumour.

I heard that BMW will be selling GS's without wheels from 07 as they now consider wheels to be an optional extra and we can choose on or off road versions. :D

tyre fitters don't like ultraseal 'cos it's messy for them.

Don`t see why.....it`s water soluble. :nenau

When my tyres get changed, the fitters just pop the old tyre off, then clean the inside of the wheel rim with some water and a rag.

I always get a new valve fitted when I get a new tyre,so there`s no bother about any valve clogging, either.
