I'm going to start fitting my own tyres and I think I will need to change the valves, I've got everything apart from them prepared and my question is...

Should I be concerned about the size, there seem to be various ones availabe, 8mm, 11mm.

BTW I've searched and although there are several good write ups on the procedure for tyre removal and reffiting there are none on valve size and there has got to be an answer or I wouldn't be staring at the M&P order page with a gormless look.

Tyre fitting

"I'm going to start fitting my own tyres" Seems rather an old fashioned idea! I suspect that you will find it very difficult if not impossible if you intend to use normal tyre levers. Watch how easy it is for the processional fitters on their special rigs. In any case Can you balance them afterwards?

I just thought I'd take the oppurtunity to collect all the things I might need to undertake a tyre change myself and since I'm here in the UK why not?

Or I could return home to my adopted country and search for a place in town to get my tires changed and balanced, I rekon I'd have as much luck as finding a croissant and espresso.

I change my own tyres - its not too difficult really, more about technique than anything else. I invested in an Abba beadbreaker and static balancer plus some decent tyre levers and a few other bits and bobs. You will need rim protectors to prevent damage to the wheels.

I don't do it to save money but because I like doing my own work wherever I can. I also have Tyre Pressure Sensors so doing it myself means they don't get damaged in the process. Because of that I don't know the valve size but I use the 11mm ones on my K1100RS. They are only pence of Ebay.
