Just bought a R100GS :JB,I was initially steering towards a 650 Dakar. I was so convinced that I had cured myself of Boxer Syndrome. Then I had a chat with Rob (Rob being a Groupie to the Dirty Girls. Where do I sign up!)
Any way I digress. I bought the GS for an introduction to Green Laning. Yes I know it's a big old heavy lump. That will make the bike and I a matched pair The bike is fitted with Tourance. Anybody got any ideas on a good Green Laning tyre for Green Lanes in the North Wales area.

Thanks for that. Had a quick search and they appear quite a bit cheaper. has anybody used them on a 100GS. What is the wear rate like? And what are they like in the wet?

You may well have difficulty in getting Heideneaus at the moment they have production problems I hear. They are a good compromise, TKC are the go if just green laning

I have them on my 100PD. They are a poor mans version of the Sahara 3's If money isn't an option then fit the Metzlers if you have an eye on the pennies then go for the Heidenau's. I've just replaced my rear after 4.5k the front tyre was fine and will probably last as long as the new rear - very similar wear rate to the Metzlers. I was expecting better tyre life from the Heidenaus.

I had no problem with supply. I ordered mine from MynetMoto.com and it arrived within 2 days.

 Too much choice now. However leaning towards Metzlers or TKC. I can aquire both for a similar price £150 pair. As new to the Green Laning which is going to give me the best fighting chance of not throwing it the wrong way up down the lanes. The Metzlers appear more road bias than the TKC's.

They are but the TKC's are bloody awful on the road - wait for the stampede of people claiming all sort of hero riding on TKC's  In the 8 years I've been on this site I've been to loads of events and have never seen anybody riding well or fast on them on the road. Seen lots of folks pootling though. Most folk buy the TKC's because they look hard.

The only way you're going to find out is to try them for yourself. Pick a pair at random and if you don't get on with them buy the others next time :thumb2

Going Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Thanks for all of your guidance on the choice of tyres. Decision to be made on Monday. As I'm a bit of a plodder I may go for the TKC's first. I'll probably be sending Rob Farmer a PM quoting 'You were dead right'

In reply to FAYESLANES question. Is Green laning the same as Going Bush!!
When I first read Going Bush my mind went straight into cartoon mode. A had a very naughty chuckle to myself as to what else 'Going Bush!!' could mean:rolleyes: I thing that they are possibly one and the same. Have a look at. trf.org.uk That should confirm it one way or the other. If it's the other I'm shocked and stunned.

Thanks Once Again.

Meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!:):):):)

TKC 80's

Rob is absolutely right, TKC 80's are horrid, like riding on threepenny bits on tarmac, they were on my G/S when it arrived and I can't wait to get the wheels rebuilt and Enduros on. Maybe this week.......................

Don't listen to these old boys who never get muddy
TKC's are great on the road ok offroad when its dry shit in the mud better off with metzeler karoo's or pirelli mt21 for north wales.

What a load of crap :blast

Oh dear, have we touched a raw nerve?

They may be fine off road,(and I do plenty off road on bikes with pedals but no engine) and are good on VERY wet roads with standing water but are not for me, or anyone else who's ridden this bike since I've had it!

cheers,

They vibe like crazy on road and wear out in no time at all. You have to try them for yourself and make your own mind up.

All sorted.

All sorted. Well at least I hope I am. I've ordered a pair of TKC's from those very nice people at Buckley Tyres £157:00 all in. I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks for all you're guidance.
