Now I know this queastion comes up frok time to time but I have looked back...... Honest:augie:augie but I cant find anything soooo
I need a new set for bertha ,my 100GS. Ive had tourances and rate them . also Conti escapes. rate them as well but I note there is a newer more road biased tread. also some strange makes.. Mito and another Ive never heard of and cant remember. I know there are Avon and Bridgestone but have heard very mixed views on these so wattcha think.
My riding is pretty much on road in all weathers and I like a brisk ride.

You mean Mitas?
I think these used to be the Barum brand.
I`ve got Mitas tyres on one of my Urals and they`re pretty good.

There`s also Maxxis.
These...oi finks...are related to Cheng Shin.

Another you may not know is Heidenau...I used them on my R80g/s LegoBike and was very impressed with them.
There`s quite a bit on here about Heidenaus if you have a look.:thumb2

Thanks Tarka' I wondered about the hedenaus but they looked fairly off road biased. I have also tried tkc's and although I got on with them ok, they ripped up quite badly on tarmac.

Glad to help.:thumb2

By the way, there`s more than one Heidenau, mate.

Mine were K60 I think (either that or K70..have a look about) ...not too chunky at all, with a rounded road friendly profile.
They were fantastic even in the wet when brand new.:beerjug:

Although I intend to return to TKC80's the tyres currently fitted to my R100GS para are Continental Trail Attacks..and they really are good road tyres ( now I have th right pressure in them  ).
Recommended.

A large proportion of the tires Mitas make are sold under other upmarket brand names , so no problems with quality.
The EO8 s are my preference on my GS, and I have tried the rest.

However I couldnt get a 120/18 for the G/S and put Avon Distanzas on instead , and they are excellent .
They give up nothing to a pure road tire on bitumen, wet or dry, and they are more than acceptable on the gravel rroads and forest tracks round these parts.

My R100GSPD came to me with new Pirelli Scorpions -had never tried them before. I'm pretty impressed. On tar, leant far enough over for my boot to touch down, they are rock solid. Seem pretty good on dirt too. No experience in mud yet. No comment on wear yet. Have liked Tourances and Anakees in the past.

Quite interesting, I had a look at some of the tyres online, very different prices but some sites didnt recognise the tyre sizes, rang others and they could not get Continentals. ( I had this once before with contis) anyway a local outfit can get escapes for £141 fitted, suppose thats not too bad, I thought the heidenaus might bbe worth a go even though they look a bit more off road but some seem to think they are no too good in the wet on tarmac.
maybe its too much choice, I shoukd go for some round black ones.:augie

Not an option on a G/S , as no 18" rear.

Pirelli Oz are phasing MTs and ATs out if favout of their latest 95% road/5 %off road incarnation, which cost almost twice the price of the old Scorpion MT 90 AT .
No loss as the Distanzas can be bought cheaper, are better and last longer.
