Hi all,
New front tyre fitted at A1 tyres Dromore today.
They now fill allbike tyres with Nitrogen, google the benefits, at no extra charge.
I have always found them to be the cheapest around. £80 all in for metzeler tourance.
Cheers

I only fill my tyres with 78% nitrogen, then add some other gasses to make it up to 100%

Yup, they're lovely lovely people who have bought the equipment and tanks of nitrogen to give it all to you and are totally happy to make a loss by doing so.

They don't take the extra cost into the overall bill, oh no, not at all.

Would you like to buy a bridge?

:augie

nitrogen tends to settle at the bottom of the tyres and can damages the rubber... if used for prolonged periods....

would recommend a dealer visit to make sure the nitrogen is up to BM service department tolerances...:thumb2

some joker was using medical nitrogen... the hassle that caused it invalidated his warranty on the final drive bearing....:blast

So please enlighten us about the benefits vs extra expense of producing nitrogen

1. Tyre maintains pressure longer. - I have not added air to mine for over six months.

2. Reduces fire hazard. - err. I have 33 l of petrol

Disadvantages

Needs quite a lot of energy and equipment to separate nitrogen from oxygen. Usually done by compressed air through a membrane or by pressure swing technology

My three nitrogen generators cost £21000 and about £1000 pa to maintain.

Original use came from the aviation industry to prevent corrosion.
F1 and the likes use it for some other reason.
Some folk think that if it's good enough for aircraft and F1 cars then that's the stuff I want in my pride and joy.
Truth is, for normal domestic use, it's irrelevant.
Air, N2 or lambs breath.......it doesn't make any difference.

Now I might be wrong. But i think F1 teams use nitrogen as it doesnt expand as much as air as it warms, therefore giving a more stable tyre pressure.

Nope sorry - makes bugger all difference.

Comprehensive article here - Debunks all the nonesense talked about N2 in tyres.

Bottom line. Air is mostly N2 anyway. The slight differences obtained using pure N2 over air would only be detectable in a lab.
Its pure 100% snake oil.
If someone chooses to use N2 to inflate tyres then fine - but you wont experience ANY benefit from it.

Its helium for me !!

I fill my tyres with nitrous oxide. It makes the bike a baw hair heavier and therfore it handles better because the weight's lower down.

Additional benefits.
1..You know when you get a puncture because you start laughing and the pitch of the engine noise gets higher.

2 ..When having your tyres changed, the gasses expelled from the tyres puts the fitters in a better mood and they may charge you less.
