The rear tyre is getting near its imminent demise and the first MoT looms. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap replacement, either a single deal or a pair?

The CEAT tyres seem more than adequate for the tarmac ripping power of 25 bhp.

Hence my quest for much cheapness! Best single tyre so far is Pirelli Scorpion Trail
120/90-17 TT 64S Rear wheel, M/C at £96.

Or a pair of Kendas for £150.

Cor! Tyre prices ain't arf gorn up!

CEATs available only in India. It seems?

Agree about the Metzelers, Richard, they're on my GS. :thumb2

When the rear OEM Pirelli MT60 was done at 7000 miles, changed both tyres to Metzeller Tourance, very much an improvement in every way. Cheaper than many alternatives, bang for buck I think they are the best option for my road use.

Put Torrance's on mine, always did fine on my GS's and no different on the Himalayan as 99+% of my riding is on road, only gravelly tracks or campsites which aren't :)

Just put a set of those on my DR800, they are so much better than the Road tyres I took off it, the front was so pliable I was able to put it on only using my hands in the hot sunshine..21" does make it easy though. The rear one I took to a local fitter and he said they were good tyres for the price that they are.

On road they are very good and up our steep rocky track they grip loose rocks and gravel very well, no idea what they are like in the rain, we have not had a drop in a long time! The rear tyre seems to be putting up with the torque very well.

Just my 2pth.

Ta for that. The EO8s are out of stock but the 07s are available and look ok and are going cheep!

Tubeless but they'll do. Btw I'd no idea Mitas sold direct so thanks again!

it's not Mitas selling direct, but a farmer in Cornwall who has the UK distribution

Are you going to run the tubleless tyres with a tube in?

unless the rims are sealed for tubeless tyres like a GS then he will have no choice!

most TL tyres are fine when used with a tube

Gwyn Barraclough - nice guy. He used to work with Simon Pavey at ORS. I drove him around a bit about 10 years ago when we put on an event at Knockhill with ORS.

I had Heidenaus on a middleweight bike

They gripped well and lasted very well indeed...but jeez if you fit your own tyres...they were like wrestling a rhino, very nearly defeated me and my 12" levers. You really would not want to have to re-fit them mid-adventure.

Mitas E07+ Had them on my GS and himmy for years. Loads of dry and wet grip plus a real world good gravel capability and, good longevity and, relatively speaking, cheap.

Next question :thumb2
