Thought those contemplating changing tyres may be interested.
Over many years of biking I have as you would expect tried loads of different tyres.
My 6 month old GS had well and truly worn out the rear Anakee 3 that they are supplied with the rear had no tread left after 5000 miles so I decided to change the pair even though the front had a bit of life left.
On past bikes I have gone for Michelin Pilot Roads but as others have found out they really are prone to punctures so thought I'd try conti road attack 3's

What a revelation I have never noticed such a change in a bike.
Much quicker to turn in feels like the bike has lost 25 kilos.
Very stable at speed and tracks perfectly on tight corners on some very rough North York Moors roads I rode on yesterday.
If you are thinking about trying these I would have a go I am really pleased.
Cannot say what mileage I will get but the Anakees were out of tread by 5000 miles so I will see how these compare

Totally agree, The Anakee are coming off my new Rallye as soon as, I've given them 4000 miles & although hardly worn they are TOO noisy & also the above post is exactly as I found in the past

I'm looking at Conti RA3'S when these Anakee 3's are done. Out of interest how much did they come in at and where'd you get them fitted. Both my local shops are struggling to get a pair.

I'm a recent fan of Metz Roadtec-01 on my s1000XR, but would be prepared to try the Conti-3 next year before the annual jaunt to Europe, if sig cheaper than the Roadtecs.

Main Caveat (Other than great grip) is 4,000+ miles out of a rear.

I'll be putting Pirelli Scorpion Trails on the Rallye at some point, as I have them on the KTM, and they're brilliant, best tyres I've had.

My Front Anakee picked up a screw that also butchered the side wall a bit so I had to replace it.
Usually I replace as a pair as they usually wear fairly evenly between front and back so even though there was a fair chunk of life left in my rear I decided to replace the lot.

Had my little black heart set on a pair of Roadtec01s. I could get a front but could I get a rear - could I f•••.
No rears to be had according to the distributors. Not for another 3 weeks.

So my choice was Anakee again or Tourance Next. I couldn't take the noise again so I picked the tourance. Have had plenty of regular ye olde tourance but never the Nexts.
I have to say so far I prefer them to the Anakee. They feel a bit more responsive. No idea what they are like in the wet yet.

How are the conties in the wet?

As the title suggest, how are the continentals in the wet compared to the other brands?

I changed my anakees at 4500 prior to a Euro tour. Tried to get roadtec 01's but were none available at the time!

Went for PR4s in the end ..and yes we had a puncture in the rear.

My colleague had roadtec 01s on his fjr and he said they were amazing at first but the grip factor ran out at about 3000 miles and as he does around 40k a year he decided to find something with a longer lifespan. Not sure what he runs now.

I'll give the contis a try when the PR4s are done. Won't be till spring 18 though.

The Conti 3s are fantastic in the wet. Could make them slip a tiny bit at limit in dry on 1290superduke.

I've got the Pirelli scorpions on my bike, 9 days on tour , 2 dry days the rest rain , Pyrenees, France and Spain, thought the were sliding a lot in the twisties , took the bike out of dynamic and into rain mode ..... impeccable manners after that, before I didn't think there was a lot difference between the modes!!!

My 15 1200GSw came with Anakees...rear was gone at 4k. Switched to the well-reviewed PR4...only 7k on the rear. I now have a Dunlop Roadsmart on the rear with 10k miles with perhaps 3k more miles available. Very happy with Dunlop for both RT and GS for basic riding and longevity. Less expensive also.

My GSA came with Anakees, changed at 6000 miles, still legal but noisy and probably less than the 2000 I was planning on in September 16. I cannot remember which tyre I wanted but only Anakees and Tourance Next were immediately available, another 6000 miles done and just changed both as another big trip is planned and gone for another set of the Tourance Next ad the first were so much better than the Anakees.

Got a pair of ContiRoad Attack 3 going on this Thursday,

Second choice would have been Roadtec 01s but to be honest I think all of the latest generation of sport touring tires are probably very similar in performance

My original Anakee 3s have done 11500 kms but the back is almost on the limit now, flattened off by too much motorway 2 up

They seem to have got a bit noisier but that really doesn't bother me in the slightest, they are finally "going off" a bit in the wet but most tires I've had in the past have done so a lot earlier

On the whole I've found them to be very good tires

Impresssive mileage and grip impression!

As far as I am concerned, there are three contenders for next year's tyres (assuming I changer F & R)

Metzeler Roadtec 01
Continental Road Attack 3
Dunlop Roadsmart

Liked the PR4 on my Adv, but can't ignore the puncture stats, and other tyres have caught up on Michelin's previous unassailable lead in the Sports/touring section.

Leadfarmer where did you get them from ?France would they ship to UK?
Still can't seem to find any in UK?

Ordered tonight from a local tire fitter I've used for years , they also know how to balance bike wheels and are no more expensive than internet suppliers, they are in stock at the suppliers

They are also in stock here
https://www.pneus-online.fr/pneu-moto-120-70-19.html

And here
https://www.bonspneus.fr/fr/Cart/CartDisplay

don't know if they would ship to U.K. But you might find a local shop no more expensive than the internet, worth asking around

All good tyres but you shouldn't dismiss Tourance Next. They are superb tyres on the GS
