Tyres (no doubt yet again!)

As a new 1250 GSA rider, having only bought the bike in January, I have now been out on it a handful of times. It has the OE tyres fitted (Anakees) and it seems a common point from what I have read and also now experiencing, that they generate a considerable amount of road noise.
A friend of mine also had a GSA (now traded it for the RS) tells me that he used the Anakee 3’s. So with the consideration of changing the tyres on mine, does anyone have experience of these Anakee 3’s or which tyre to eliminate as much as possible, the road noise? The majority of my riding (perhaps 98%) will be on road.

There is strong backing for Conti Trail Attack 3 in here too, have yourself a look around.
I wear ear plugs too which are cheaper and a health benefit compared to new tyres….

Tyre choice is a very subjective topic, but here's another vote for PR6's. Great feedback and feel, and perform fantastically in the wet. I too always wear earplugs and struggle to understand how others don't. Beyond tyre roar, the wind noise results in fatigue after only a short time for me.

Thanks. I always wear ear plugs but have really noticed the tyre noise on this bike from the OEM Anakees.

I am in the Continental Trail Attack 3 camp. Great tyre in any weather and get decent tyre life too. I have covered many miles on these the last 3 years (40K), and are my 'go to' tyre.

I also liked Michelins, and had them on prev Bikes. However, for me the Road 6 on the GS didn't work. The softer carcass made the Bike feel unstable & very little feedback vs the CTA3.

Never run Anakee 3s on my GS or GSA but had several sets on my Crosstourers, i liked them for the way the bike felt and mileage was very good.
However, i nicknamed them Anadin 3s, at motorway cruising speed the made a real racket, ok up to speed and beyond.

Run a couple of sets of CTAs on my GS and they were good ill probably go for the New Anakee Roads when the OEM A41s are finished.

Cheers, sounds like the route I should go down. I’m not even going to wait until the Anakee’s are worn out, really don’t like them for the noise they produce.

I didn't wait either as the noise is horrid.

Just make sure you get the one with the deeper tread

They last WAAAYYYY longer

They are the ones that are V rated!! the tread is 8mm rather than 6mm on the W rated ones

Nobody seems to mention Conti Road Attack 3. I’ve had 3 sets now and if it wasn’t for emergency Pirelly Scorpion Trail 2, I’d be replacing them with another set. Great tyres. PS. I’ve never had Trail Attack 3 on any of my bikes. What’s the main difference between Trail and Road?

I had both TA3s and RA3s on my 1200

The TA3s are slightly quicker stearing than the RA3s but I also find they give a floaty sensation on the front end at speed in a straight line, especially when 2 up and loaded. They also track tar snakes and white lines a bit,

I didn't notice either of these behaviors...

That floaty sensation is something I felt on CTAs.

Nothing scary or anything like that but probably my only complaint with them.

Do people change the end can for an aftermarket akrapovic [other cans also available] then complain about the tyres being noisy ? Get on with it. Turn the music up in your helmet if you have to.

I think it’s a strictly personal thing

Personally it doesn’t bother me in the slightest if tyres are noisy, I just take no notice, as you say, a motorcycle is a noisy place to be

But I can’t stand a dirty visor, windscreen or glasses, so I understand people who are bothered by tyre noise, we all have our foibles

Aaahh fair play, you got me there, I can't ride with a dirty visor either. And turning the music does sod all to help me out

Then perhaps you should try fitting a pair and then make a qualified comment?
