Probably in the office. Again.
They're a top lot at N Oxford - Matt is a star bloke and really busts a gut to help out. I'd recommend them to anyone - and the coffee bar is great! :D

Bit of a problem about their tyre prices though...

My new 1150 needs a new set of Tourances, so did the usual call-around.

The results:

Witney Superbike Tyres - £200 fitted to the bike, but none in stock, didn't know when they could get them. Didn't seem that interested.

Bike Treads, Swindon - £207.90 as above.

BVM Moto, Stroud - £181 fitted to the bike, tried to juggle things about; had 'em in but no time to fit 'em

North Oxford Garage - wait for it - £313, fitted to the bike. Yee-owch :gosh. The problem is, apparently, the BMW fitting times. Matt was pretty apologetic...

Mind you, finding Tourances anywhere at the moment isn't easy - looks like there's a shortage for some reason.

Cheers

It's almost worth the ride up to Sandbach in Cheshire to see Steve at F&B. Pick a good route and a nice day and save money as well. £154 ride in ride out.

Have you tried Micheldever tyres - just close the the A303/M3?

you've got bampton on your avatar

Oxfordshire not Devon methinks.

I would echo MMC's comments re NOG. Excellent people. Not surprised they are more expensive on tyres - any dealer is going to be more and probably a whole lot more than a specialist tyre place.

I've just been getting quotes to relace my car tyres - I wish my local people had some motorcycle expertise. Just by way of comparison, Kwik Fit £109 per tyre, my local £64.98 for the identical tyre fitted and balanced.

With respect, bollocks.

Why then did BVM quote a pretty respectable £181 - less than the specialist tyre places? It is just blatant profiteering. Either that or they just don't want to be arsed selling tyres.

Ok - I hadn't spotted BVM. That surprises me. I still think my comment holds generally. Who goes to their main franchise dealer for new tyres for their car so why would a bike be different?

As for blatant profiteering - Rubbish.

Not much interest in tyres - possibly true. Having spoken to them and reading between the lines, I suspect they see it as a service they ought to provide, that it needs to be better priced but is not a top priority - they are still a new business finding their feet.

Spoke to Matt. He knows he is not competitive and that he stands no chance against Witney for instance. He has still to find a supplier who can give him a competitive price at the volumes they can offer; at the moment, even without any fitting costs, he would be uncompetitive.

Just to let you know, Micheldever came in at £171 fitted to the bike.

Then, on the way back I picked up a bloody screw in the front one. Just got to Witney Tyres in time (yup - it's the Oxon Bampton, not the Cumbria or Devon ones) and, £30 later, all fixed again. Bo$$ocks.

Nothing special at all that I could see.

Think I might just give them a call tomorrow and check what a repair costs. I got the impression they weren't too impressed that I didn't buy the tyres from them - but I'm sure they wouldn't have taken the piss...

Tyres in Bristol

Protyre in Bristol:-
Metzler Tourance "H" rated for R1150
Front £85 fitted to bike balanced etc.
Rear £89.30 fitted and balanced (Take in wheel off bike)

A recent rear Tourance on my 1150:

Vines (BMW dealer in Guildford) quoted £140 fitted.

Micheldever Tyres - £92 fitted.

Guess who got the business !

I've used Micheldever a couple of times and have found their prices and service excellent.

The fitters are friendly and take great care not to mark your bike as they take the wheels in and out.

The best ride in-ride out service in the South, if you ask me.

Off to eastern Europe in late August on my 1150 & after reading that Tourances were in short supply (as they were this time last year for my airhead GS) I thought I'd order a set now rather than leave it too late.

Ordered them from M&P Oxford late last week. Got a call on Tuesday to say the rear had arrived & a call today saying the front had arrived, I'll collect them at the weekend.

Best part is the price: £153.00 & I'll fit & balance them myself, about an hour per wheel, taking it easy.

Sterling Tyres in Bracknell - £166 for Tourances ride-in or add £20 and they'll come to you - within reason.

Always good and quick and there's an excellent greasy spoon 2 minutes walk away.

I've never used anyone else and they always seem to have a stock.

Tourance front and rear £125 inc VAT. 'Course have get them from Knockhill, bur may as well make a weekend of it.

....usually try National tyres or the one A.Jeffries uses on Green Lane at Shipley but does anyone know any Northern competative prices !!??:D

Could this be the best buy yet?

Pair Tourances fitted to wheels £117.50 including the VAT.

At Blandford tyres on the Sunrise Business Park.

:D :D :D :D
