i have had TrailAttacks on my GSA for the last 12000 miles...yes 12000 miles and overall very happy and i have got used to the 'feedback' they provide when reaching the limits of their adhesion...! I am happy to fit another TA rear but wondering about Road Attack front to give just a touch more confidence in the front end....

I know mixing tyres is a no no, but as they are essentially the same pattern but RA being slightly softer i wondered if they would be a good mix...any tried this combination?

Cheers Neil

Think about if you bin the bike.............

You try proving that the mix of tyres had nothing to do with the off................... from your hospital bed.

Mixing tyres is fine. I had a trail attack on the front and a ROAD attack on the back (in a 160/60 size). The only noticeable difference was the road attack wore out quicker.

Why not speak to Continental?

I suspect that the fact that two tyres "look" similar has feck all to do with it...well okay, maybe not "feck" all.. tread pattern for rain dispersal and heating up, and profile for turning in, but it is the compounds and whats happening at the nano level that makes the difference in grip and traction, which I would think is more critical. :blagblah

That said, you can try it and see - tyres is very personal and what works for one person isn't necessarily right for the next...

I'm running a BT020 on the front and a Tourance on the rear. I've done probably 4000 miles with this set up and have always mixed my tyres. I even  use part worn tyres, as long as they have no damage. I've done this for the last 35,000 miles on the GS - which is about 15 months ownership, and previously on an XTZ750, GPX600r, RF600 etc etc etc ....

My (very few) offs have been down to me - lack of concentration/ distracted etc.

As long as you aren't mixing radial and cross-plies, you just need to be sensible. It isnt for some people, and others just dont give a t*ss. Im in the latter camp - if I dont like the mix, I'll just pull another tyre out of my shed and swap them ....

In other words, fine if you want to, some others would, some wouldn't. Its a personal thing. :hide

thanks guys, ill give it a go i think but maybe try Continental today and see if they have anything useful to say. seem to remember it was considered a good mix in the past using 020 and 010's and i see this as something very similar..i'll let you know..cheers

After theree sets of Tourance I was lured to Trail Attacks for a change. they are great but have squared off MUCH quicker. Back to Tourance next time..

Std Tourance (not EXP) every time. Conti's have a bad habit of squaring off badly and producing a weird feeling like shagged steering head bearings. Also known them to induce wobble at low speeds
