Mr P, my experience is concurrent with general concensus, that is:
Tourances are best with a Pirelli technically identical, Enduro 4 is great, Trailwing not so good particularly in the the wet.
So there you go, given the choice and assuming you have an oilhead get Tourances.
Tim

Trailwings fitted to my 2002 GS as OE, good grip, wet or dry, and they look like they're going to last well.

Trailwing...

......sorry but if you want to lean on a damp or wet road ...these are definitely not the tyre to go with...butt clenching times a plenty. Wore mine out ASAP [OE fit]. Have used Tourances on my 1100 before and now on the 1150 - brilliant tyre but sometimes hard to find. Believe Pirelli, who bought Metzler, are pushing their own tyres more. Think Wreford has Pirelli Scorpions[?], think he was happy?

thanks guys..

wont get the trailwings..

will get something else..

Yep..... I've got Scorpions, rears a little flat after to many motorway miles but I've found them to be great.

When new they role in very well and did keep there shape for a long time.

I've also ran Trailwings and found them to be OK.

Apart from a front Tourance I've never I exsperinced a full set.

Front did feel good though, just could'nt find a rear so brought the Scorpions.

Bottom line...I dont think any of the GS tyres options are bad and if buying traiwings is a cheap and easy option then you'll not be dissapointed.....and the GS slides well anyway.

Trailwings

I got them new on my Adventure... they are so bad in the wet, I got them changed for Metzelers at the 1st service.

I honestly don't know how they passed application testing, they really are that dangerous when cranked over in the wet.

Riding with a friend on Tuesday night, he had a powerslide on the motorway on Trailwings. Trouble is, he was doing 100+ and still accelerating and the wiggle was awesome to see from behind...side to side, the back wheel moved about 18" several times. Scary!!

Suffice to say, he hates Trailwings on the 1150 even though he liked them on his old 100GSPD.

I prefer TKC80's. They've always behaved very predictably, even in a slide. In the dry, they give amazing grip because they are very soft rubber. They only last about 4000 miles but one front will last through two rears and they are v. cheap at £100 a pair.

HTH,

Yep, I'm with Animal. Got Trailwings as standard fitting on the Adv. and although I got plenty of miles out of them, as soon as the wet weather came my sphincter opened and closed more times than the doors at M&S! Tourances all the way!!

:D

Yep. Definitely Tourances. I believe the new Michelin Annakees (sp?) are good as well. I think Greg's got them fitted.

Steve.

Got tourances now - ace and good miles.Idont know about the anikees.I had the trailwings as OE on the GS when I bought it and I found them quite good even on a slippery Loch Ness road on Day 1 of ownership and I wasnt exactly hanging about. They were seriously worn after 4k
The T66 are the worst in my opinion.Had them on my 94 Tiger.Fekkin awful.

Michelin Anakees

Steve's correct! I have a pair of Michelin Anakees and have now done around 5k miles on them with no complaints!

Tyres

SInce I bought my 1150 I've used Michelin T66s, (originally fitted), Tourances and now Avon Distanzas.

The Tourances were much better than the T66s but I struggled to find a replacement pair during the great Tourance famine of 2002 so I went to the Avons on advice of a mate who rides an 1100GS. The Avons are excellent, have had my boot scraping tarmac at the Baskerville run last year and they seem to wear well and have not had any dodgy moments in the wet yet.

Just what I needed to know.

I run Avons on my 'blade and Trackbike, so it's good to know that the Off-Road tyres will be up to the job on the GS.

Wonder if Avon will do me bulk Discount ?

Ive had Anakees for 3000 miles and like them alot.Very grippy in the wet.
