I moved into the Newton Abbot area about 8 months ago, the GSA is now in need of new boots. Not knowing the area well and never bought tyres here, can you recommend a/or place/s that can either supply and fit or will fit tyres to lose wheels, know what their doing and are competitive on price etc? I'm not keen on using car places that offer motorcycle tyres as a sideline unless they know what they're doing.

Cheers

when I have been in a strange area, I have looked for a branch of Protyre. Of the big chains the branches that do bike tyres tend to have a dedicated bike tyre bay with a properly trained fitter https://www.protyre.co.uk/motorcycles - branch in Exeter.
They are also useful for checking local prices on their website and providing competition for any local independents.
When I was in Gloucester, I used Chris Mullins tyres but a Protyre branch half a mile away meant Chris had to be keen on prices and you could go to Protyre if Chris did not have stock.

On your doorstep, I've always found them good on prices and service but then I do know them well.
The Motorcycle Co
A bit further away but also very good with day to day servicing.
John Tremlett
I fit all my own tyres but wouldn't hesistate to use either of the above.

Ok well it's been a while since I bought tyres, having several bikes it tends to take a while until anyone of them gets to a point of new tyres. I was shocked they've rocketed in price! Not only that, the difference in price between Protyre and The Motorcycle Co really shocked.... me at first. The latter couldn't get Contis and Mich Anakees £50 more expensive! Until you start the buying process with Protyre. It's like a poxy airline all the hidden charges start to appear, £2.50 for disposal, £15 per wheel to fit them, so you end up adding £32 to what you see in the basket! I thought all these add on charges were band now? Clearly not.

I would ring Protyre. The depot will have flexibility on price, especially the additional fees for fitting etc. Once I had that price in hand, phone the independents and haggle.

That's a bit naughty as they don't give an option to buy without fitting. What size Michelins do you want I might have a lead on good prices, do you want fitting and balancing on bare wheels or on the bike.

Got things sorted now Treen are fitting Contis on Tue, still over £330. Not as cheap as Protyre, but I want to support local independents who aren't taking the pee! Plus I really get peeved with add on shit at checkout.

Size wise standard as for 2023 1250 GSA.

Ok tyres all fitted but they couldn't balance the rear, no adaptor for their machine and not just BMWs they said can't do any single sided wheel! I find that amazing many bikes, Hondas, Ducati's, Triumphs and no doubt a few more, that's a lot of bikes you can't balance rears! So I'm going to have to do it myself, does anyone know (save me taking the wheel off twice to measure) if the wheels on the 1200 and 1250 have the same hub dimensions?

As I could just use my Abba balancer with this adaptor https://www.abbastands.co.uk/product-detail.asp?item=single-sided-adapter-b&pid=51

I'll post this in another section as well.
