Hi,
Has anybody modified their Bluetooth devices to run with in ear monitors?

I have an SRC in a C3 and whilst sound quality is OK it's not as good as my UE monitors and the SRC also has to overcome wind noise.

My concern is I've read (somewhere!) that you can end up with a constant background hiss, is that the case?

Any other hassles?

Ta,

Steve

hi Steve,

To my recollection we've (I work for Ultimate) adapted four SRC's and a good number of Cardo Scala G4 and none have complained about constant hiss.

Wapping of this parish had a G4 converted for his SoundEar and has asked me to adapt the 2nd one, can't see him living with a hiss problem. Maybe the person who has a problem should get in touch with us to establish what the issue is?

You can have the modification done for you by our technicians for £35.

Cheers Judge,
Just trying to guage feedback from others before having my wires snipped!
I'm local to you so I'll pop the collar round to you this week

I have just had mine done and am having some problems. My ultimate ears will have to go back as they are phasing and not producing decent stereo, ultimate have been really helpful, but I am really disappointed. Scala gives a constant background hiss when listening to music, gps or on the phone, hopefully that can be sorted too!

I'm going back to ultimate in the morning and will update once I have some results to share.

If you are going to use for gps and phone maybe with music thrown in....I am beginning to wonder if bluetooth can really handle it yet! You have to be really careful how you pair devices and will lose some functionality with more devices attached. Beginning to wonder about staying with the scala q2 for phone and bike coms and add the autocom with ultimate ears for gps and music! G4 is an amazing bit of kit but it might be too 'flashy' for it's own good!

Well I got UE to do the conversion, turned it round in 1 day:thumb2

Fiddling with it outside the shop everything seemed fine, music and phone were clear, no obvious hissing but as I pulled away the music started to cut in and out in 1 speaker, turns out to be a faulty male connector on my UE.

The trouble is when the 2 speaker wires are connected to the female socket they are only long enough to allow the socket to sit on your shoulder, so any movement of your head is dragging the socket over your jacket, if the connection isn't 100% it will cause the very annoying cutting in and out.

UE are replacing the male connector, hopefully that will sort the problem

Having been back to UE this morning, they were great. completely new pair of soundears made for me. I now have decent sound while I ride. However I am not sold on the Scala G4. will probably put up for sale in the near future and go the auto com route!

Now my UE connector is sorted I've had a chance to try out this setup for a couple of days. First thing is sound quality is leaps and bounds ahead of the SRC speakers. Playing music from my iphone blue toothed to the SRC I can't really tell the difference with my old wired setup. There is a slight hiss when the blue tooth connection is initially made but disappears after a few seconds.

Setting it up with my Zumo 550 also produces the hissing noise, but only while the blue tooth connection is active, I actually quite like it because the hissing acts as a warning you are about to receive a voice prompt and soon disappears. Blue tooth music from the Zumo was always crap, but with the UE monitors is even worse!

The lowest volume setting is slightly higher than before, but not uncomfortably so.

Overall I think it is a worthwhile modification and the speakers look like they could be reattached to return the unit to standard.

35 quid well spent

u;timate seem to have a varied pricing policy.
MY brother sent his two sets away. they charged him £35 each set posted back.
I sent mine across and was then asked for £35 plus £6 postage. I enquired how long they would take, 2 weeks was the reply. ( i had read on here 24 hours wasa possiblilty)
I asked if they could be done quicker to he told yes, for another £15:eek:
so sacked that
just wondered if anyone else had been charged different also

The official Ultimate Line is this:

Bluetooth Headset Conversion is £35 + £6 p&p when supplied on its own, the unit is returned via Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Many customers order the conversion at the same time as they order their SoundEar monitors and the RRP on those is £170 + £6 p&p + £35 headset conversion (postage only applied once).

Customers collecting from our offices also won't pay postage (I know a few who have posted on these forums have done just that).

Standard lead times is 14 days for conversions, the batch processing used may mean some get theirs much sooner and others have to wait closer to the full 14 days.

The surcharge mentioned was one of our standard express charges which can be applied to many products and services (but not all).

In the case of the Oly's brother I don't know the specifics, could be a discount was offered for doing two :nenau

I know this - the office being admin staff not sales staff seldom do 'deals', the RRP price list is their bible, I know this as they often pull myself and my sales colleagues when we might stray from it :augie

credit where credit is due, received my g4 back today,
13 days from sending them out, and the job is first rate,
not only converted the scala to in ear, but fitted a jack to the speakers
so can use both.
top job:thumb2:thumb2
