A couple of points for anyone else thinking of doing this. The first time I did mine, I too pivoted the back end up, but I didn't have to remove the ABS stuff. Don't know why, but all went well with it in place. Check you've got clearence though. The second time I did it I had a mate helping me, and he just went ahead and stripped it while I was at work one night, so he removed the back end. Quite useful really as some 'hot spanner' work was required to remove a couple of corroded nuts.
Also first time, as Digger, I used a {trolley} jack to help avoid bending the clutch rod. The second time, I removed the clutch action from the back of the box, then pulled the push-rod out before removing box. Done the same again on present replacement.
