'05 1200 gs, 53,000 miles.

felt a faint "knocking" through the foot pegs - - it slowly got more pronounced after some 50 miles, then got worse and worse -

is it the universal joint that has failed?

anyhow - i took the extended warranty - so all should be good - i guess i'll be on the 1100gs (isn't it rubbish having to have a "spare" bike?) for a while.......

If the rubber boot's been split for long and let the crap in, that's probably why the UJ has failed. Are you sure they'll honour the claim? :blast

maybe it should have been picked up at service. how long is the boot supposed to last anyway?

i think it should be fixed under warranty.

I reckon they'll fix it. Not too bad for them. Swinging arm out and in, gaiter and a UJ.

i do a fair amount of miles - although 5000 since last service it has only been a little over a month (since the last service) i don't see why they wouldn't honour it- - it's not my fault / anything i have done - - -!

anyway - will let you all know. . .

thanks for comments. .

On the two occasions that my gearbox has been removed by my local dealers, (once to get the seals done and once to replace the whole box). the boot has not been correctly re-installed. On both occasions I had to take the bike back to the workshops to get he dealer to fix their mistake.

Doesn't really help the lifespan of the UJ...
