Hi

i've bought myself and my parents Siemens Gigaset S685 IP phones - as speaking to each other on the Siemens Gigaset voip network is free, handy as we are now at opposite ends of the world.

The Siemens phone can utilise both the standard phone line and voip, but my parents have expressed the intention to go voip, based purely on how cheap it has been for me over here in Aus, compared to traditional landline costs.

So anyone here use a VOIP provider for home in the UK ? Any recommendations ?

I've done the usual trawl through Google, but would prefer to get first hand recommendations / experiences from the good people here.

thanks
Aaron

For SIP I've used Gradwell.

For £7 per month you can get a multi-extension virtual PBX.

Excellent system - best I've used.

We use Skype for talk/video to Perth, Aus and friends in Spain.

Why are you considering paying a charge when Skype is free?

Also use TalkTalk for phone/internet and pay the extra £4+ a month for free calls anytime to landlines and mobiles.
This also includes free calls to Australia and Spain and about another 20-30 countries.

My phone/internet bill is £22 a month and that includes BT line rental and the £4+ add-on.

Yes I am cheap!!! :rob

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I will look into Gradwell. Callserve isn't really what I'm after.

As for using Skype, well I've been using Skype for years now and I think it is great for what it is and I used to have it on a very early Windows mobile phone. We just use it now for video calls back to the UK.

As for using Skype instead of VOIP via a traditional phone, or Siemens IP phone. Well... I got tired of call lag and garbled calls. Skype is ok but you have to work within its limitations. In many ways Skype is very similar to voip, but I have found better value and quality with VoIP providers. I think I am now paying under a cent per minute call rate back to the UK and pretty much feck all for landline to landline calls here in Aus.

It amazes the Outlaws here, that our ADSL2 and call bill is about half what theirs are and that is with a whole bundle of International calls.

Certainly the Siemens Gigaset IP phone is delivering better call quality than anything I have used before. In addition to that the Siemens kit has the ability to set up different voip providers for different calls, eg location, home or business. Already we have managed to have all 3 phones in the house taking 3 different calls simultaneously.

cheers
Aaron
