Ulster gp 2022

N.I tourist board have decided not to support the £800,000 funding

IMHO the cancellation was/is inevitable, the event has lost money for years, riders payments have, in the past, not been made and support money for the event, was used to refurbish a clubhouse

Great shame, one of the truly great road races in the world.

The best road race road race bar none. Sparked my life long interest in motorbikes when I was taken by my future Bro in law to the wet and windy 1971 race as a 10 year old. Shame.

It may be more than just that.

A few years ago, a Clerk of the Course at such road races quit saying he could no longer stand the pain of the inquests.

I have no interest in road racing, but no objection to it either.

As the late George Macdonald Frazer, an Isle of Man resident said;
The Gladiators in Rome went out and fought under penalty of death. These people provide their own steeds and risk their lives to entertain us. If they are prepared to kill themselves to entertain me, I am prepared to watch them.

Most of my friends are road racing nuts. I have been to the TT races 3 times, and have yet to see a race. I go for the fantastic atmosphere, and sleep through the events.

In 1987 German rider Klaus Klein was killed in heavy rain in a race which should never have been run. I never went back so it will be no loss to me.

I still attend the NW and marshall at my local race, the Tandragee 100.
