Ultimate Sin..I left my GS idling, advice?!

When its time to sell it, don't advertise on here, we have long memories !!!

Can't see that it will have done too much damage, TBH. It took me nearly two hours to escape from the MotoGP at Donny a couple of years ago, most of which time was spent sitting in a traffic jam with the engine at idle, only moving two yards at a time.

Has the oil sight glass discoloured or melted at all? They are plastic and not glass. It'd be a shame to sort the oil then find the sightglass was leaking.

Sight glass was plastic on my bike, so discoloured. Have just replaced it with a new glass one, along with oil and filter.

Out for 25 mile run today and no issues or weeping, thankfully. Will keep an eye on it, and never be such a silly boy again! :blast

Thanks for all advice :thumb2

I did a similar thing a few years back. Took the bike out of the garage, onto the centre stand and back to close the garage door and nip in the house to get my panniers. I had started the bike on choke (as normal) but left it on choke whilst nipping back in the house. Something must have distracted me because I was in the house for maybe 5-10 mins and when I came out the header pipes were cherry red:eek::eek: It was dark outside so the pipes showed up more than they would in daylight (cant remember if it was morning or night).

Everything seemed fine though, the most concerning thing was the sight glass as they are glued in I believe and that had me worried but its been alright ever since.

Like you I posted it on here and got the pi** taken out of me:D

I would have been very worried though if the fuel in your petrol tank was boiling:eek::eek::eek: The boiling temp I believe is around 95 DegC and the auto ignition about 230 DegC but I would have been very worried - tell the wife you need a new bike:thumb

You were very lucky. A few months ago I was down at Cardiff Motorrad, and he was telling me of a guy who did exactly the same thing, started the bike went in the house answered the phone :blagblah when he went back out about an hour later he had cooked it:eek: I think he said £3500 to replace/sort it. Sounds like you weren't far from that. A lucky escape indeed:thumb2

Its probably more common than we think, a guy at work left one of the Transalps ticking over till it seized, I came along a couple of days later and re started it no trouble at all, and it seemed to run ok after that too :D
