Been advised to post this in the techie area:
Anyone had any experience of Ultraseal puncture prevention gunk? It seems to get a good press, but word of mouth is best...

I don't know if Ultra Seal works or not but I DO know that the bmw tyre plug repair kit works very well. Instant permanent repair :thumb I also know that if you have utraseal in your tyre and the hole is too big for it to work then you CANNOT then use the plug repair method :(

Type Ultraseal into the Search thing on here and you'll get pages and pages about it

I've been using it for about 4 years and have experienced no bad effects from it. I have ridden 2-up at speeds over 120 mph on the GS and my previous Yamaha (not UK officer). Touch wood I have not had a puncture to know how well it works. Once you put it in your tyre it feels very weriod for the first few hundred yards then you don't notice it. A friend of mine removed it from his ZZR1200 as he said it caused a vibration. I like it for some piece of mind.

Just posted the above in the 'newbie' section  then get down here and see you've moved it! So added it here encase you miss it

it can cause vibration at high speeds, if too much was put in the tyre, but if you put in the right amount, it is ussually ok, don't be tempted to put more in for luck :nenau

having said that, I carry a stop n go puncture repair kit and a very small compressor :thumb

Some hate it (vehemently), some love it.

Saved my rear tyre once and saved my mate on the outside lane of a french motorway - gave him enough time to get over to the hard shoulder.

Won't stop massive/catastrophic punctures, but will give you a controlled deflation, like my mate above.

Doesn't stop you checking your tyres regularly, like you normally do, don't you :mmmm

Some people think it does stop you doing this..........which is why they don't like it.

Someones punting some out on e-bay for £12.50 at the mo too (just bought some for my Morocco trip on 3 weeks). £12 over the life of the tyre for something that may save you/help you?

Your choice......................

Used it for years - totally problem and puncture free.

It stays liquid in the tyre, so should make absolutley no difference to balance etc at all - this seems to be a urban myth that puts people off.

Not sure about the claims of longer tyre life due to cooler running though. Certainly doesn't seem to shorten it - I'm on a 9K rear tourance this is only just starting to square off a bit - can't really argue with that.

Numerous hawthorns from hedge cutting in the back tyre, all of which penetrated the carcass, no loss of pressure and once home and checked tyres found the evidence.
Got the tyre properly repaired at a later date,as a get you home insurance I would swear by the stuff.
Then again I check my tyres before each trip. Ultraseal is not in my opinion a replacement for good maintainance and common sense with regards to tyres

I've seen lots written about performance of Ultraseal (and similar products) and have considered using it myself. But what I would like to know is this.

Does it cause problems when the time comes to change the tyres. Are the tyre suppliers reluctant or do they charge extra for fitting/labour? Any other "downsides" that I haven't thought of?

I have been using ultraseal for a number of years now and have had not problems when replacing tyres. I do however warn them that there is ultraseal in the tyres.
