I was out on a mountain pass ride out with a couple of friends who shall we say ride at a very sedate pace! The asked me to lead out as they are not used to riding in france, anyway I had to ride really quite slowly and never more than 90kph:eek: We went out the next day and I thought better fill up before we go too far so filled up at a supermarket on the way out. The bike took 6.1L of 95oct and the bike had done 181 kilometers that works out at about 80 mpg!!! And I think I may actually filled the bike higher than it was filled on the first fill up so it could actually have been more than that 80 mpg:eek Anybody had similar returns I did not think that sort of milage was possible to be honest but the figures are correct!

edit: bikes a 2005 model with 31k kilometers

Nothing like, 62 max 56 normally 48 on a very good day out with a fast friend.
Im assuming you are riding a 1200GS, not the F650GS.

I suppose 80 mpg is possible. factors to consider: altitude, air temperature, tyre pressure, onboard weight, average rpm, max rpm, stop/starts.

I had a very very slow rideout with a bloke at work who rides a 675 Daytona, I was on my 64,000 mile tls, he never went over the posted speed limits all day,
Anyway to the point,
My fuel light always comes on between 115-125 miles, on this ride it came on at 168 miles, I couldn't believe it,
I guess anybike will do a good mileage if you ride so sedately ,
Ps also had over 400 miles on a tankfull riding the GSA in the alps in the twisties fully loaded

On my '08 GSA going on the OBC which I think is fairly accurate by all accounts, a best would be 56mpg and normal is 48mpg. Mostly rural roads, no motorway, lots of acceleration out of the bends and a "just a bit above the limit officer" most of the time. If I reset the OBC and have a bit more of a blast then 42mpg.

Bimbling around the austrian alps ar legal speeds two up looking at the scenery and 68 mpg easily achieved on my r1200 gsa.
Quite feasible to get 80 if riding really sedately,

I still fine it hard to believe! But I have checked the mileage again and also done a google route to check that the odometer on the bike is right but after doing a thourough check of the fuel added and the distance covered the revised figure is ... wait for it ... 84 mpg! Now I must say straight away I personally have never ridden that bike so slowly and with as little hard acceleration ad to that about twenty km was down hill with virtually no throttle but still thats an incredible return! What is more remarkable is the first time I filled up the bike was on the side stand the second time I put it on the centre stand and filled it to the brim!

It has to be something in the French fuel ...:blagblah

The 85 octane crap they sell in many French stations will hammer fuel consumption. The MZ250 would happily get 80mpg driven carefully but dropped to less than 50mpg on that half paraffin petrol. It just ran like a bag of spanners and made no power.

On my GSA with full luggage I generally get about 45mpg. Its a mixture of (was it really that fast?) M-way and winding A-roads with revs & quick acceleration to (wake up) get past the dopes.

Thats odd bendy because the crap you are referring to is the fuel recommended by my BMW dealer who service the bike? I have tried the super unleaded and guess what absolutely no difference:(?? Any way just reporting my findings I did 181km on 6.1L of the semi parrafin and returned 84mpg unbelievable but true I would swear under oath. Mind you I would also swear the bike never exceeded 55mph that day and accelerated slower than a slow thing:D

They are pretty good if taken very gently. When I'm in teh States leading a group, I will get high 60's out of my GSA most of the time:thumb2 I filled her up one time and got an estimated range of 565 miles come up on the sceen which did make me smile. Got a picture somewhere.......

To be honest sgt I thought the odometer was off but I checked the route and got virtually the same figure. thing if the the bike was treated sooo gently because the other two were so slow I had to! But still 84mpg :eek I normally get about 55 ish depending on the degree of thrashing!

In the states the mileage are much shorter then uk :) ( just kidding )
I notice in France that one of they Kilometre is just as long as one mile on my bike :)
I also notice that if I drive south I get much more mileage then when I drive north :)

The MZ was a nightmare & very nearly left me with no fuel in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully I stopped at a self-serve just in case. Less thankfully I'd already put it cheap n nasty so had to stop again a bit further along. Once into Italy on new fuel the bike was flying again.

I've not run the GS on ultra low octane petrol (not availlable in UK) but do find that UK posh petrol costs less per mile than 95RON unleaded. Its really not much but the bike also feels quicker so I use posh when I can.
