I have tried every possible position for my Autocom earphones but i cannot get them comfortable at all. The maximum i can stand is around 30 minutes before my ears start to hurt. I have tried to create indentations in the foam but it is too stiff (Shoie XR1000) so I am looking for advice!!

Do i have any other options, other than buying a bigger helmet? Are there any other Autocom headset alternatives?

I am really pissed off with this because for the time it did not hurt it was great!!

Cheers

In ear monitors green leopard / ultomate ear etc?

Thanks for the response John but.....

Ultimate ear................149 quid for a set of ear phones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Autcom unit was under 200 so this seems a little excessive to listen to the damm thing!!!

If you can't get the autocom speakers in a comfortable place, then £150 is cheap for the lack of pain in the ears/ and being able to hear everything on and off the bike clearly.

The autcom headset is attached to the 7 pin connector with a 2? pin connector for the mic - are the Ultimate ear phones the same?

I've the same helmet and find it a doddle. I've not even bothered trying to put the earpieces behind the lining I've just stuck them in the helmet where the space is for earpieces.

I put my helmet on, unfold my big flappy lugs and as comfortable as anything.

Nope... it's worse than that... you need to buy from Autocom (or make) a special headset that has the mike connector and a jack to plug in your monitors...

Not sure what helmet you have, but if it were mine, I'd indent the foam about half the thickness of the autocom speakers, try it and indent it a bit more if needed... pressing won't do it.. hot spoon or carve it out...

David,

you need to either remove or compress the polystyrene so that the speakers are not proud of where the polystyrene originally was.

I had the same problem and in addition to deepening the the recesses in the helmet (I used a heated ring spanner which mad a nice flat bottomed recess)I removed the speakers from the plastic cases and just hot glued the bare speakers into the recesses.

No problem now but as I use Ultimate Ear plugs I am looking st getting the ones with built in speakers as the plugs are pretty good and having the audio inside the plugs rather than through the plugs must be a plus. My only problem is the price and Ultimate Ear only knock £10 off the price when you already have the moulds.

I too have the same helmet and the speakers fit in those spaces as above perfectly. I also used the handle end of a spoon to tuck the wire in around the back of the helmet.

Where are your ears? :augie

They seem to be in the normal position:rolleyes:

i think i will try the heated spoon method, and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies

The XR1000 can NOT be modified as you are actually attacking the inner shell of the helmet making it weaker if you were to ever be involved in a crash.

In-ear do not always have to be expensive, Microbuds can be brought off the net for just over £10 but as with anything you get what you pay for.

Connection wise our Parts 1187 or 1188 can be used, headset wise you can replace your loom with a Part 18 £10 to connect your mic etc. or if you are careful you can cut out your speakers and insulate up the remaining cables

So i have managed to get a comfortable set up without modifying the helmet. I basically took the speakers apart and I am only using the centre parts, which stops my unusually shaped ears being squashed!! The only thing is I have damaged on of the speakers during the modification - is it possible to just buy the speakers?
