Under seat lock

I have noticed the cut out for a U lock, under the seat of my 1200. A quick search of ebay reveals an Abus X-Plus 54 300mm as suitable for the space.

£60 hard earned pounds, plus the postage..........

Is this the correct fit for the bike?

Is the price about right?

Or is there a better lock or better price to be had out there?

I dont want to carry a big chain and lock in my pannier, but am looking for advice as to the most secure lock to fit under my seat.

Got mine for about £54 posted from a specialist lock company, not a motorbike site. Can't remember the name, but Google should give you some options, or a price comparison site like Kelkoo

I've been thinking about buying one of these but I have my autocom (with the associated rat's nest wiring) where the tool tray fits. Would the lock still fit? Any body got both items under there? Oh and I need the seat set to low on account of me shorties!

Mant sit theirs abutted to the tank, above the battery, where the RTFM would sit. There is even a tidy rubber band to hold it in place.

My mate spotted the profile under the seat of my new GSA.

We concluded it must be for a U shackle.

I had a Squire Protector in the garage and tried it in. It fits perfectly.

The only problem is the lock part does not have anywhere to go.

The only place is in the tool tray with the tool roll. It just fits.

I have had the Squire protector for years, but they are still listed.

I found that with the lowered BMW seat, my tool roll fitted better without the suspension spanner and extender tube (also shown in the image) - this might be because I have a couple of non-OEM tools in the roll though. Also I believe the standard seat has a little more clearance.

Autocom won't fit them there because the rainwater runs down the back of the tank into the unit and kills it.

Mine does Back of seat on lowest setting, front on high. Not because of the lock, I like it that way......

There you go. There is a small strip of self adhesive foam rubber stuck to the Autocom to take some of the pressure off , but really it is only as severe as you make it with the rubber fastening strap

I've got mine in a similar location but I've dremmelled the bottom of the tool tray out to give an extra bit of space. The Autocom lowers into that space and is a perfect fit, then the lock and tools fit above it.

Decster - the key word in my original post was 'sale'. This usually means the product is offered at less than list price. I hope this has cleared up any unfortunate misunderstanding.

And what about a disk lock under the seat? 54/300 is anyway to short to tighten the bike to external point...
