I started with R model parts in 2006 (17" wheels, dash, oil coolers etc) and then added the tank and rear end of the Touratech ReVamp. It was geat fun for many years. Unfortunately, I punctured the nylon tank trying to drill out a bolt that held the side panel on (doh!) and so decided to rebuild with a nice used tank from Germany, Unit Garage parts, new instruments cluster (home made) and finally an LED headlight that is quite powerful. After all these years it doesn't really owe me anything but it is a lot of fun to ride. Just occasionally a bit heavy for my ageing back. I did try to fit an R1150R tank with the Touratech seat but it didn't really work and the Unit Garage seat wouldn't sit behind that tank - a bit of an expensive cul-de-sac as the R tank also uses a different fuel pump which I also bought!!! The speedo is a Daytona Velona and the LED tell-tale light bracket is home made. I can provide more info if it is of interest. I relocated the ignition down by the right hand side of the engine and also fitted the Motogadget keyless ignition (why not!) - the keyed ignition still works as a back up but is away from prying eyes/fingers. The final bit of trim from Unit Garage around the front of the tank gives it a nice finish. I considered getting a Ducati Desert Sled but they are hard to come by here in Ireland and bought a Yamaha XSR700 when I thought the GS was on its way out. The XSR is a lot of fun with a slightly naughty Kelpi exhaust but it may have to go in the Spring. I've been eyeing up the 12G/S but then my old 1150 is still great fun, so I may still look out for a Desert Sled. Because of certain, ahem, exit arrangements from the EU, importing one from the UK involves customs duties etc. of c30% on the cost of the bike and of getting it here, so not really on. Plenty to think about during the winter months!
