Hi having decided to keep my 1100 GS I am now looking at ways to spend some money on it. One option is to replace the 2 piece Corbin seat with a slimmer one piece one from Unit Garage. Has anyone got any experience of them and a view on their comfort. Im tempted because it will make a difference to the way the bike looks and it will add in to the other changes I am thinking about.
Appreciate thoughts or other suggestions.

Steve

I redid my GS1150 during lock down and fitted the Unit Garage seat in leather. Very nice. I also used their rear end "bits" to tidy it all up. Their LED rear light unit I flipped upside down and fitted a different number plate light using an M10 (I think) version bought online. A few pics below. Also have the right hand waterproof bag that goes where the number plate is - easy to clip on and off and not as bulky as the hard panniers (which I still have and can put on in a few mins). Now have a smaller DART screen option as well as the other. Lot of fun now.

Do you have a thread or more pics of the dash ?
Did the same a few years back but with OEM parts from the R model :D

I started with R model parts in 2006 (17" wheels, dash, oil coolers etc) and then added the tank and rear end of the Touratech ReVamp. It was geat fun for many years. Unfortunately, I punctured the nylon tank trying to drill out a bolt that held the side panel on (doh!) and so decided to rebuild with a nice used tank from Germany, Unit Garage parts, new instruments cluster (home made) and finally an LED headlight that is quite powerful. After all these years it doesn't really owe me anything but it is a lot of fun to ride. Just occasionally a bit heavy for my ageing back. I did try to fit an R1150R tank with the Touratech seat but it didn't really work and the Unit Garage seat wouldn't sit behind that tank - a bit of an expensive cul-de-sac as the R tank also uses a different fuel pump which I also bought!!! The speedo is a Daytona Velona and the LED tell-tale light bracket is home made. I can provide more info if it is of interest. I relocated the ignition down by the right hand side of the engine and also fitted the Motogadget keyless ignition (why not!) - the keyed ignition still works as a back up but is away from prying eyes/fingers. The final bit of trim from Unit Garage around the front of the tank gives it a nice finish. I considered getting a Ducati Desert Sled but they are hard to come by here in Ireland and bought a Yamaha XSR700 when I thought the GS was on its way out. The XSR is a lot of fun with a slightly naughty Kelpi exhaust but it may have to go in the Spring. I've been eyeing up the 12G/S but then my old 1150 is still great fun, so I may still look out for a Desert Sled. Because of certain, ahem, exit arrangements from the EU, importing one from the UK involves customs duties etc. of c30% on the cost of the bike and of getting it here, so not really on. Plenty to think about during the winter months!

Mine started after getting the top triple clamp broken by idiots trying to steal the bike. First I started with the custom dash/speedo exactly like you did but went the R way after finding the parts lot for less than 100€. I loved it as it was the first time I managed not to get my head bashed by turbulence while riding it.

Had to keep only one bike before moving a few years ago so sold it and kept my RD07, but now I have an itch and looking into 1150s again even if I have recently acquired a 2012 GSA, which is the first bike I made to completely fit my size (2m) with a combination of lower pegs, low-seat position and AF330 :D

Nice picture. I only changed the R instruments to slim everything down a bit further and the servo/abs has been removed which created the space for the relocated ignition. Maybe keeping the original wheels might have been an option to preserve a bit of height and off road ability. If you can find an 1150GS at a reasonable price you can have a lot of fun for not a lot of money - depending upon how far you want to go!! If I hadn't had to buy a replacement tank (and hadn't first bougth an 1150R tank/fuel pump - ouch!) this would have been much cheaper. The LED headlight is also a bit of a revelation - almost literally!!

Looks great! Really like how clean the front end looks , where have all the cables gone ! What the turbulence like with that screen? Is the headlight from Unit garage ?
Im getting quite excited now at the thought of pulling the bike together... new tyres fitted tomorrow, crash bars seat anf john Gimi stage 16 chip arriving this week :)

Cables are wrapped up and threaded under the tank by the headstock. Turbulance with the small DART screen is minimal but the wind protection is minimal, too. I have a larger Puig screen that can bolt on easily that is a bit taller but there is a bit of buffeting - photo of the taller screen and the cockpit attached. The headlight was from the Café Racer Webshop and was called the "7" Premium Project & Halo Cafe Racer Headlight" (cost just over €200 all in) Very good for visibility from the bike and for other road users. Oil cooler lowering kit was from Unit Garage but some people make their own. Also fitted braided hoses ;-) Let us have a look at yours when it has all come together. Quick edit: I also fitted Motogadget mini indicators at the back and their bar end indicators at the front - my heated grips had given up the ghost, so too them off.

Looks good, Im a big fan of the clean cockpit look, especially on retro bikes like by Scrambler. Cost a lot to achieve though! AIm to be back on the road in Feb with all the current changes made, pics to follow !
