unlocking 2nd Hand 2610

Loaded Mapsource onto PC.
Entered unlock code.
Did not register
PC tells me Maps unlocked
Click Finish and open Mapsource

Bottom right corner in yellow shading " Maps Locked"

Whats the answer please.

Is the unit registered to you?

I tried the same to discover that the unit had been stolen during a house burglary - and sold on Ebay ................ to me

Garmin won't register the 2610 to me now (funnily enough )

Contact Garmin and get it registered to you. this will involve the registered owner contacting them.

Called Garmin all sorted
I was supplied with V8 and V9
But only the V8 unlock code, which would not unlock V9, so the good lady promptly E- mailed V9 unlock code to me after checking that i was the new registered owner.
To register a new owner previous owner must call Garmin and advise them of the new owners details.

I am in the same boat, I have a 2610 which is registered to someone else!

I have phoned garmin and although it was only registered a year ago, they have emailed the 'registered' owner but he has not replied to them!! I am told that there is nothing I can do, but what if that owner has moved abroad or is dead, is there no way around this?

You should still pester Garmin, as ultimately - I feel they will relent. It was only cos mine was reported stolen in a burglary............ that they refused to do anything.

Don't you have a note of the original owner? or at least the person that sold it to you?

Well at least mine isn't stolen, or at least garmin are not saying that!!

I bought it on ebay, it was advertised with the unlock codes but when it arrived, there were none!! I tried to make contact with the seller but he just ignored me!!

I raised a complaint with paypal and after 6 weeks, they found in my favour and put all the money, including the postage, back into my account!! I am not sure if they get the money from the seller or not and I expected him to contact me then, but not!!

It certainly took the sting out of not having unlock codes!!

It has version 5 installed and I would pay for an upgrade, but garmin are dragging their heels, but I guess it costs nothing to keep pestering them, so that's what I will do!

Is version 5 really old as Garmin tell me it was only registered within the last 12 months?

Garmin have emailed the registered bloke but he is different from the seller and neither want to speak!!

Version 5 is pretty old, given that we are on V9 now.

If all else fails you could go the MetroGuide and MetroWizzz/MetroGold route as that requires no unlock code.
