just wondering if any 1190 owners have fitted an updated horn to their ride?

(my stock horn is completely useless).

if you have I would be interested to know what you fitted and where do you fit it on the bike.

I quite like the thought of a nautilus air horn but these are quite large which could prove difficult to "hide" on the bike.

cheers

You will probably have to wire it through a relay as it could upset the good old canbus

My horn was like a duckling. So I tried two or three different ones but they all played up with the canbus and wouldn't hold a long 'beeeeeeeep' ...

But ..... I put the original back on and suddenly it was fine! It seems that the connection from the factory wasn't great (grease or wax or something on the connectors ?? Maybe the female connector not tight enough??) and by taking it off and putting it back on I've improved the contact.

So have a look at the two connectors. Crimp the female one a bit and get a tight clean fit. It might make all the difference ... :thumb2

It also works better if you mount it on a metal bracket instead of the plastic wind deflector........its the same horn as the 950

It's easy to split the Nautilus so that the compressor can be mounted remotely iyswim ;)

I have a Stebel Nautilus that is already in two parts with hoses etc etc so it worked (but I Would need to check all ok now). It was fitted to a previous bike and I have no intention of fitting to this one so if anyone is interested make me am offer. It is heavy so postage will be in the £10+ region.

I have fitted a Nautilus onto the KTM crashbars. Not the best looking location, but I couldn't find an alternative and at least I now have a horn that can be heard.

Funny you should say that; one of the leads to my horn snapped. The loom just seemed a bit too short at that point and was stretching the wire. I extended the loom a bit and made all new connections and the horn is a lot better now.

Marie stopes snapped the leads to my horn about 15 years ago ... Sigh ...

that's exactly what happened to me. I extended the wires sealed with heat shrink etc but it sounds like a budgie farting in a force 10 gale.

I will check the connectors and connections but it was pretty poor before the wire snapping incident.

It sound bad because its mounted on the plastic wind deflector a horn needs to be mounted on something solid like the frame try holding the wind deflector as you operate the horn and see if it sounds better I kept the horn in the same place but mounted it on a meat strip fixed to the bottom yolk It sounds better I will investigate up rating the horn when Im in the mood but space is gona be a problem

Fitted a relay. however, I have noticed that if I give it a long blast an error code appears on the dash, but this disappears on pressing the reset button.

Just digging this thread back up to see if anyone has come up with any horn upgrades to their 1190/1290?

I can't remember the last time I needed a horn, let alone a louder than standard one.
