Just returned from Picos/Douro Valley, 9 day trip around 2000 miles.

The engines extra torque delivers in all gears but in 3/4/5th gears, it is ballistic compared to 1200. It blasts to 200 kph in a blink. Great fun. Plus it makes for more relaxing long mile days.

Consumption varied but at restricted pace averaged around 50 mpg. At very high speeds 37 mph, at blatting speeds 44 mpg.

The downside is the exhaust noise which is a weedy drone.....wonder if an exhaust exists with a better burble/sound? The gearbox is agricultural but works.

So its better and more fun than the 1200 but is it nice to have or need to have? Your choice. Pleased I made the move.

Totally agree about the performance the stomp in the upper gears is brilliant but the gear assist is chronic coming down the box thought it would be better on this one

Your hallucinations are noted....

Been reading you’re thread on the gear assist this is the 4th gs with it and they have all been crunchy sometimes wont go in unless I give it a blip on downward shifts

Gear shift pro is inconsistent at best. Much better to rev match yourself changing down and it becomes smoother and gives better engine breaking if needed. Clutch less upchanges smoother than gearshift pro.

I personally think if the bike did not go faster, nobody would have bought it, so BMW marketing is a winner..........

Don't blip on the way down as it works on closed throttle.
No sure on your overall mileage but as it grows it does get smoother.
Done 4000 on mine now and its perfect .

I know it works on closed throttle but on 4th and 3rd it sometimes doesn’t move at all unless I blip it even then it’s not brilliant it’s not slick if it worked like my old 1000 xr I would be happy or my ktm1290 r

Quick side line question.... When you were in the Duoro Valley did you happen to have a tootle along the N222 and if so was it as good as the hype???

Sorry , just pointing out the obvious ...sell the bm and be happy on the parts looser

Just done Corsica and back, with 6k on the clock - all ok ish but I must mention the valve rattle if the oil level gets low! I topped up and it went.

50 mpg, inconsistent gear change - sometimes smooth sometimes clunky but other than that I’m really pleased. Just a bit soul-less but I ain’t BMW bashing. With a magic wand I would’ve done Corsica on my R9T butnif course it would’ve killed me getting there and back!

You could have rode to Paris, stick the bike on the train, get off at Nice, ferry happy days, food for thought for next time.....:beerjug:

I haven’t ridden one but all this much faster than the 1200 business puzzles me as the figures don’t suggest it’s that much different?

Happy with my 2018 1200 at the moment so in no rush to change, maybe in 2-3 years time

Don’t understand why they can’t get it right. On my second 1000XR and on both the quick shifter is absolutely perfect, even when I fcuck up on the throttle position.

They can get it right because my R1200GSA is great.
