PS For anyone who wants to know the difference between NT and NTU, it's apparently:

The maps in the NT and NTU versions are exactly the same. The difference is that the NTU version uses Unicode to encode names because many European languages require that so users can see/search names in their native language.

Newer devices can handle Unicode but older models cannot. The NTU maps should work in those units but names/searching may not.

I take the bod at his word on that.

So......I need to sort out my Garmin stuff.......and load everything onto the wifes macbook air........as it's been a while since I've done anything with the gizmo

Therefore.....need a bit of advice re: instructions:

Step 1: I download base camp
Step 2: DO I then download garmin express?
Step 3: update maps
Step 4: use the gizmo as normal

Are the above steps correct?

Mine froze twice while downloading and I had to restart the process each time but seems to have done it in the end. Perhaps I shouldn't have picked to download to satnav and computer at the same time? Took over 4hrs with infinity doesn't normally give me so much grief!

I may well treat myself to a new model with lifetime maps.......now shopping for a bargain.

Has anyone else had difficulty downloading the update to a Nav 5?

I've deleted all the foreign languages etc, but its still showing insufficient space.

Use Garmin Express that's what I use with my Nav V.

Express says update fro the Virb (done), 2 for the car satnag and one for the 390.
Update on 390 has stalled twice, wonder if their servers are overloaded?
I do only have a 8gb card in it, coul;d that be the problem - showing only 1.4gb free, selected option to load to pc and device.

Any ideas??

2017.1 updated with option 'Device and computer' which left the latest plus the last map on Basecamp: as usual I used Garmin Map Manager to easily delete the old map.
I am pleased to say that the new road layout of Heads of The Valleys road is now available, cos I was really screwed up there a few weeks ago and found myself in Satnav airborne nowhere situation:
Left track log on last map: no road present............Right updated and new road present in 2017.1

Garmin Map Manager is that just for Mac? Can't find it for windows? Ok found it now but it doesn't seem to work with Windows 10
