now sitting at 7 hours 53 minutes - that's after being left over night!!

Think I need to restart.....

if like me you only update your maps annually, then you may find that your copy of garmin express has corrupted since you last attempted to update your maps. Try reinstalling garmin express before trying to update you maps. Note: I'm talking about PC applications. My map update only took 45 minutes after reinstall action of garmin express.

The map update was slow over the weekend, particularly if you were updating the maps on your computer AND your device at the same time.

A standard download of an map update should (according to Garmin) take about 2.5 hours. This assumes that the broadband connection is pretty quick, many are not. It also assumes that:

1. The home broadband connection is not busy on other tasks, for instance streaming in high definition films via Sky

2. Your computer is not busy downloading other updates. Mine slowed significantly when I also asked it to download a large set of OSM map tiles at the same time

3. You are updating the maps on your device OR computer, not both in the same transaction; do both at once and it may well take much longer

4. You haven't got loads of other Europeans downloading the update at the same time. If the Americans are also updating their maps, you can imagine that the Garmin servers might well be slow

5. Your computer has a reasonably fast processor, many don't

Subsequent updates, for instance updating a second device, are quicker as your computer 'holds' (there is probably some fangled IT word for this) the updated map set which it then simply 'flicks across' to the device

What size are getting for this download?
After updating my 590 and PC when I check the size of the map file on the gps its just under 4gb.
I was expecting it to be almost twice that.

Garmin express....13GB....kin ell !!!!

I may well treat myself to a new model with lifetime maps.......now shopping for a bargain.

Can the zumo 660 cradle be used with either the 590 / 595??

No............. 590 will not fit the old 660 cradle, but the BMW Nav 5 does fit. Good luck.

Maps on one PC plus 390 updated today. First two attempts aborted (said it would take 10 hours !) Deleted Garmin Express and then downloaded it again as this has solved the problem in the past. First attempt with new version resulted in a full download in about 40 mins. Just what is the problem with Express? I used the old version only a few weeks ago with no problems. This is at least the third time I have had to go through this pantomime, about time they sorted the problem I think.

And after all that they still have one of two pubs in our village in the wrong place.

Well, I've installed all the various software items (basecamp, express etc).

Just bought lifetime maps & received an e-mail confirmation that the download was available - marvellous, that was super quick!!

Logged into my Garmin account - clicked on my maps - and there is my purchase!!

Selected my zumo (which is plugged into the macbook) and nothing happens! No 'click here' to download/update etc

So....my question is.....do I have to wait a day or two for an activation code or similar to then be able to download?

I also had a look in Garmin Express and there's no lifetime map download waiting for me.

I didn't have a 'live' garmin express account.....I now have this & there was my map download ready to be activated & download is underway

I did search for a deal, but the best I could find was at Handtec which was around £5 cheaper than via my Garmin account, so I stuck with the purchase via my Garmin.

Cheers Bounce. I took a scan on ebay and found a guy in Denmark offering an update card for £29.99. Took a chance and it worked. Looks like I got a bargain.

Forgive me....I did see that, but knowing my luck it would have been a dud, or a map of Mongolia!!!
