On Thursday I updated my 660 & two things occurred that puzzled me

A) I no longer had enough memory to hold the updated maps, so had to use a 4G SD card.
I am certain that in the past there has been an option to just load the UK & the ROI, or the same plus western Europe.
But not this time.

Anyway, I now have Software 4.90.

B) I tested the unit today & found that the “voice” had gone from English to American.
When I checked the settings, under language I found I only have a choice of:-

American English
Australian English
Spanish
French-Canadian
Italian

Leaving the last three out of the equation, I don’t like the two “English” options,
The US version talks about “the Interstate” etc.
The Australian lady, although a pleasant accent, uses different terms to us here in the UK.
Take as an example, the A429 road, which we would call “the A four two nine”; that becomes “the A four hundred & twenty nine”.
The previous "English - English" choice used the format that most of us are familiar with.
It is rather annoying.
Was this supposed to happen ?:nenau

Was it supposed to happen? No.

Can you get it back? Probably, yes.

Go to the software updater. Check the box that says 'Emily English' or summat like that and away you go.

Better still, get used to riding without a disembodied voice burbling in your ear.

Well, a result. An e-mail to Garmin received a very full reply.

I should have said that I didn’t perform the update in the first place, as I have a very slow broadband & I am a complete technophobe, so a Garmin 660 owning mate did it (as he has done for the last 3 or 4 updates), & his was fine with no apparent difference in the process.

Anyway, we followed the Garmin instructions to rectify the problem, & had success. We got to the point in the process when we could choose which language(s) to download, & opted for the English options. Roberts your mother’s brother, English Emily is back.
