Hi, I want to upgrade / sort of customize. IE a project to my 04 R1200GS, I have bought a front beak and tank cover, in white so they can be a blank canvas for my design, and I may have to get other parts but would love to know what I need, or even if it can be done? the parts are from a 2010 model, Has any one else done this?? I'm hoping this can be done with a little fettling. Any Ideas

If your talking cosmetics / plastics some is possible

If your talking spannery bits, then i wouldnt. major changes from 04-10 youd need new engine , zorstzz, gbox, injectors, swing arm etc

As Santa has said, don't waste time or money on the mechanics. Just make sure what you have is looked after.
Regarding cosmetics, why not get what you have resprayed?
Can't see any advantage in changing the panels for a later model, even if it's feasible.

The later tank is a slightly different shape, it would not surprise me if the difference is enough to prevent the panels being interchangeable.

Wrapping seems to be the trend.
Not a lot of difference in the bikes but I am sure a bit of fettling would be required.

Hi again! I'm not thinking spannery! I'm purely thinking cosmetic, I want to keep the original parts if I want to sell it sometime, and iv gone too far over the top. its an immaculate bike, very very good condition, the new parts will be sprayed and the decals or wrap applied, but it will look very different. But I'm just trying to find out what will fit, I think, I will have to get tank side panels, hopefully, I can get away with the original side fairings, I'm looking for parts if any one has so to get rid of, i have the beak and tank cover i will need the tank side panels and possibly the smaller plastic trims around the handlebars plus im looking for the peak over the oil cooler across the beak.

Ok, your not going to give up are you!!!

Check out realoem.com

look at the cosmetic bits for your bike 2004 and the model you want.

if the part number for the cosmetiky bit is defferent from yours, its a new part, and chances are it will not fit!

Yes you can move holes etc, but think of what it's going to look like??

+ you have to declare these mods!! making a 2004 look like a 2010 .. newer model more nickable (in the eys of insurance co's)

As has been said before ... wrapping and adding styling lines can pay dividends

Yes, its my thing, But very good point!. I can't leave anything alone lol, im a project man. and an artisan by trade. I have a VW T5 done to the nines, and still, cant stop doing more to it, it very tasteful. it's my third van, Also I bought a very ruff 02 Yamaha TDM. which I striped to nothing and completely rebuilt and resprayed it in my own colour scheme with decals over the top, I made it look like a 2017 Bike it did for the love of it, I sold it for 3 times,s more than I expedited to get for it. My only problem is that when I finish a project I tend to lose interest in the vehicle, How ever a wrap could be the answer, that way if I get bored with it I can start again, What do you think about Dassel camouflage, like the old naval battle ships, but maybe not white gray and black. But a combination of different colouers? That could chage the shape completly.

Many years ago, a bloke an Cardiff had an 1150 with a custom spray job in WW2 German desert camo splinter pattern.

You can also get camo in stickers that you overlap. The base paint colour becomes one of the camo colours.

It's not costly so if it looks crap, just start again.
