My Gf is running OS 10.4.11 on her macbook pro. Alas as is the way with macs she now finds it is incompatible with a number of upgraded programmes ie messenger live. I'm a pc and like XP so I'm not really up on macs. Snow leopard is the thing but it seems to be a cash cow for Apple at over £100. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to upgrade? I am amenable to torrents but they can be dodgy and I don't want to stuff her machine and ebay sales etc. Windows is usually hacked to work but I'm not sure of Mac OS ins and outs:-)

Cheers M'dears

If you want to go the torrent route, try piratebay and check the comments, if a torrent is good there'll be comments to this effects, as there will most likely be if it's bad.

Is £21.74 better? ebay link

the official way to upgrade from 10.4 Tiger, is the £125 pack that includes iLife & iWork 09.

the £25 disc for the Leopard to Snow Leopard upgrade is exactly the same, but you don't get the extra iLife/iWork discs.

If you search Snow Leopard upgrade on the Apple website the "official" way to upgrade is: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MAC_OS_X_SNGL

it's only the "official" way to upgrade from Leopard not Tiger :blast

Thanks chaps.. She looked at the £25 upgrade but the boys at the apple store said no, it must be the £125 route. We must investigate Cookie and Justinds' suggestions.

Win7 is great cookie....I like it a lot.

Very stable, faster than xp and just...nice

Oh, and as for torrent sites, if I were a heavy user, I'd probably know all about kickasstorrents .....but obviously i'm not, so i don't :augie

recently holidayed in an alpine chalet with an HP Touchsmart + W7 & i admit i was surprised and impressed.

also, i was looking at 7 Mobile recently and thought it made iphone OS look rather dated, but i'd certainly deny saying that in public :P

i never use torrents anymore. if i wanted to download anything hooky, which obviously i don't, i'd use rapidshare :augie

Windoze

Honestly guys Windows 7, all its great features copied from Mac Os from years ago, still I guess you can now start to enjoy using your computers a bit, something us Mac users have been doing for 20 years.....not to mention the look and advanced design, rather than just a huge cheap looking plastic box which hasn't changed much since windows desktops were invented; and no I'm not on commission! Just someone enjoys quality and reliability over a heap of low cost components thrown into a cheap box running a dubious operating system...come on this is Microsoft we're talking about after all.
