Got a real nice 2001 blue / white 1150GS. Love it. Takes me a couple of hundred miles with the tent, stove, bag etc.. and still leaves me smilin'.......But I've got a real thirst for an ADV.

Anyone out there made the upgrade? Reckon it will cost me about £3000 extra with the nice aluminium luggage and so on. Is it worth it or should I just stick with my old faithful and spend my money on some crash bars and one of those nice one-piece seats from Touratech?

Cheers,
Bolk.

Just done the self same thing :D
My 1150 (2000) surged like a bast*ered, did valves/throttle thingie, was,nt any better after dealer service either,
Test rode 1200/GSA back to back, liked the 1200 a lot..... liked the GSA alot more :D
So much smoother and its got the enduro gearbox, which is a lot better (opinions are like bottoms I know),
cost me £3700 to change to this with heated grips/engine bars :D

It only hurts for a couple of weeks  (supose it does depend where she kicks you though :D )

Bolk, I know just how you feel. However...
Last week I tried an '02 GSA. It handled noticeably better than my '03 GS, but for some reason was a fair bit slower

Mill wanted £1750 to p-ex my bike for a bike which is 1 year older, of which I don't know the history, and is slower. Alternatively I could keep my bike (which is still "new" to me) spend ~£1000 on some Ohlins and get handling which is better again, a Y-piece / Remus for more power, and still have change. Hmmmm.....

Took a mates '04 GSA out for a spin. Bit smoother than mine (newer???...Shouldn't it be the other way round:confused: ) but otherwise no huge difference.

Think I'll start stashing away some pennies, ponder a bit more and then sucumb to the impulse buy when I see a real nice one!

Cheers for the advice

Bolk.

PS: I'll invest in some of those Dainesse armoured pants. May take the sting out of the wife's welcome to a new bike!
