Ok I have a sick 2009 model at the mo it has a failed final drive at 13000 miles it is being fixed under warranty but I have lost confidence in it so should I bite the bullet and swap it for a new one?
Has anyone moved up to the 2010 model if so from what ? I would really like to hear from those folks who had a late model 1200 before :nenau

The 2010 is a definite improvement over the 08/09 but not enought for me to change yet.

Late 2008 (2009 spec), 21K.

Its really down to you but sometimes you only need the smallest excuse to change.

Ive changed from an 08 GS to an 09GSA after 11 months and now pick up a 60plate GSA on Thursday after 16 months.

I have convinced myself that it was due its 12k service soon so i am saving money :D

In reality it got dirty so decided to change up :toungincheek.

I have changed cars regulary too after losing confidence in them.

go forth Bisbee

There seems to be nothing but 1200GS passing through my neck of the woods at the mo, so I presume in percentage terms the FD failures are fairly limited... However why would you spend money again on the same bike after having had such a problem at 13K... I must admit to not understanding.

Don't get me wrong I have owned a GS and it was fantastic...

I kid you not 2 out of every three tourists that come through here are on the 1200GS.... It's getting very boring, why not trade p to an 1150SE, now that would be worth a look...

As others have said, if it's fixed than don't worry about it. However, if you have the cash to ignore first year depeciation hits and just fancy a change, then why not?

If you can afford it then why not?

I'd like a 2010 model but haven't got the couple of grand it'd cost to change my 2009 GSA, I also don't reckon the updated engine is gonna make the riding experience that much different.

The bottom line for me though is I haven't got the money to do it, if you have then there's nowt like picking up a brand new bike!:JB

I had an 1150 albeit a 2002 model before it was heavy but a nice bike.
I really need to decide if I can can trust BMW again or if I should go ZZR iykwim:nenau

Bollox
if you can afford it change up

2 years warranty, brand new, free panniers ,

new engine, SE spec, no competition ,,,,,DO IT!!!!!!! :bounce1

2010 engine is a real step up.

Some used ones are available at dealers now which will help with cost.
:)

Personally, I found the 2010 engine very nice and much better, not 000s better than a 2009 with an accelerator cable, but better. No surging at low speeds and rolls on much better between 100 to 140 than the older (2009 spec) bikes IME. Basically you no longer notice the engine, it just does its thing in the background.

the exhaust flap is pointless, and is only audible (thankfully) at low speed.

Hiya Bisbee,
sorry to hear you have joined the Failed FD club, dont worry too much think of all the GS bikes that have not failed FD and are still bombing around. I also have a 2009 1200 GSA (red of course) and having only got 8.5k touch wood FD is good, but like you I have pondered on the 2010 twin cam.....

So I bit the bullet and ordered a 30th Anv and PX my GSA I collect it 17/09/10 so if i were you Go for it the engine is much sweeter and the exhaust note is cool plus you start from scratch re warrannty ---- if you want it do it I was told on here sell your old nail and join the modern engines......Well we will see what its like later this month.

Be Happy

Big D:)

Changing my 09 1200gs for a 2010 1200gs, told myself that mine will soon want a rear tyre & a 12k service another niggle is the clutch occasionally slips under hard acceleration but it never performs at the stealers:blast
Another decider was free panniers, there's a price increase next month & vat goes up in January. Must ave saved myself a fortune:rolleyes: (this logic works when the wife goes shopping:toungincheek )
