Urban GS

Love my Scrambler - nearly had it 6 years now.

Always been a second bike to something more touring orientated but more than happy to do a full days riding on it. Swapped out the rear shock for Wilbers and added YSS emulators to front forks and suspension now fine. Being tall lowered the pegs and raised the seat (Tony Archer) and fine for me at 6' 3". It is at the end of the day just a fun bike to ride :D

Plenty to think about and I didn't want to start any arguments , I'm torn between the Urban and the 1200 Triumph scrambler tbh , I don't do mega miles but i do the odd 400 mile day trips and weeks away in Scotland but i think even the most uncomfortable of bikes i would manage a few hundred miles on before it pissed me off , The weak points on the urban for me are the rear bevel gear and if the clutch needs replaced because of that stupid £2 oil seal in there that costs £800 to repair , just need some reassurance that a decent low mileage :should: give no trouble, i assume the engine is the last of the older aircooled type,

thanks for all your feedback much appreciated

Triumph Scrambler XE with the Ohlins suspension is sublime.
Yes sorry about the spat but some people only want to hear positive comments about the BMW brand

Nice choice to have - ridden a mates XE and definitely better suspension out of the box though fairly tall if you are of a more average ht and XC whilst lower has cheaper suspension.

For me the engine on the R9T (yes - last of the old GS twin Cam motors) is much nicer/torquer than the XE/XC. As for clutch/bevel drive problems - these are very rare (look through the 9RT Forum https://www.ninetowners.com) and a low mileage bike is very unlikely to cause a problem ;)

I had a 2019 model for just over a year and didn't really gel with it, and I don't know why. If you get one, plan on changing the rear shock for a Wilbers etc and it'll transform the bike no end.

When I chopped it in (for an X-ADV 750) I rode it for the last time and thought, what am I doing? It felt excellent, a really great engine indeed.....but the Honda I've got now is probably the best bike I've had in years...love it.

yes the XE is tall which is putting me off tbh as i've a 31 inside leg and will be on tip toes probably , thanks for your comments , cheers Spen

With all the talk of suspension etc etc, let’s not forget it’s a beautiful looking thing, that’s got to be a factor

I have an Urban reliability over 6K has been fine and no recalls which is a first for me. Set up the suspension for sag etc, Then change the shock for a good one and front springs the bike is very hard ie setup for 125Kg rider. I changed the tyres to Conti road 3's which were better than the TKC80 for wear and ride and a small screen other wise cosmetics/bling. Good ride often do 120 mile Sunday ride around Norfolk/Suffolk where the road conditions are pretty abysmal but its fine I've also got a S1000xr so it's not an uncompared ride.

Next question is does anyone have one for sale ??

Urban

I have an Urban and a 1250 gs, the Urban has had a few ££ spent on it with a Wilbers rear shock set to my weight and bar risers, lowered pegs ( thanks Deek ) I have had more enjoyment farkling the Urban than any other bike I can remember and really enjoy it, but when I tour I take the 1250.
It’s quite funny, when I’ve been riding the 1250 then return home and take out the Urban I get 100 yards down the road and think this bike is shit then 1/2 a mile later I think this bike is brilliant.
It’s horse’s for courses, I have no intention of ever selling mine but I’m glad it’s not my only bike. 😎

Deposit left on a nice low mileage Urban , courier lifting it in the next week or two ,thanks for all the imput :beerjug:

If sale falls through my one above is available again.

Sadly the sale on here fell through for the best of reasons.

Hiya. No, I was writing it when a member contacted me directly and wanted it. Through no fault of his it’s now available again.

if you’re interested pm me and I’ll send details.

I’m not a fan of selling bikes on here if honest, too much thread torpedoing by the elders, I’d much rather deal direct.

its the one in the pic I posted.
as I say feel free to pm Me we can chat on what’s app (y)
