Newboy needs help

I must buy a GS this weekend.
I have a wad of cash and the will to buy..but I cant decide between 2 quite different bikes:

A 1200GS 2005 with approx 40,000 miles
or
A 1150 gsa 2002 with 12000 miles

Both are very good condition fsh etc.
Both are same price.
If I dont decide soon the wife will kill me!

Help me join the GS community soon with the right choice.

If you can, go and have a good run on both bikes and see which one feels best.
Buy with heart not head.
If you cant, do what Richie says.
Lastly, ignore anything anyone on a GS board tells you :D

Thanks for the rapid response.

Both have the same equipment ie
Grips
ABS
Top box

No panniers.

Both sellers want 5500.

Thoughts?

I`d take the 1150GSA but I`d try to knock him down on the price a little, assuming that its in immaculate condition. Just that it seems a little overpriced without panniers.
If you prefer the 1200, see if you can check with BMW if much warranty work had been carried out on it over and above the norm. I`d always be a little wary of an 04/05 model, especially a private sale without warranty.

The 1200 has had all the reacall work done by BMW.
Its had the gearbox out with new seals fitted and new axle seals at back I think.
The only thing not done is a fuel relay that I have been strongly advised to get done.

It sounds like the gsa is a tad expensive at 5500. What would be a better figure.

Neither!

Both are overpriced.

Stump-up the site sponsorship and you'll see better equipped examples of both for the same money or less in the FS&W section.

When it comes to a choice between 1150GSA and 1200 Basic, you'll have to make that decision for yourself (and live with the consequences if you choose the 1200 :D).

It's a no brainer, 1150GSA or standard 1200.
Knock him down £750 and be able to set off on a journey fairly safe in the knowledge that your going to get where you want too.

to be fair the millage doesn't seem to as big an issue as the no warning stop you dead in your tracks problems that effect a few 1200's

Well,
its been 2 hours and lots of replies so many thanks to everyone.

In summary,

I'm not getting much love for the 1200!

The 1150 at 5k is a better buy. If the seller wont sell for that then look elsewhere.

Cheers everyone.
