Buy the 1200.

If you were a 1150 person, you wouldnt have to ask.:)

Buy a 1150 and be a grumpy old fart!

Buy a 1200 and discovery a whole new world with the RAC

The choice is yours :D

Neither!

Both are overpriced.

Stump-up the site sponsorship and you'll see better equipped examples of both for the same money or less in the FS&W section.

When it comes to a choice between 1150GSA and 1200 Basic, you'll have to make that decision for yourself (and live with the consequences if you choose the 1200 :D).

this is definitely the best bit of advice so far.

except this bit :D

Thanks again all.

Nb though, that you dont need to stump up sponsorship to see the FS&W forum. Ive looking at it for some time and havent sponsored anything.

Cheers

Oh look, it's one of those twattish older GS owners who have no life other than posting in the 1200 section:D

Where's the 'oooooh get her' smilie ?

Anyway I think you'll find this isn't in the 1200 section :)

ps: Threads started by Trippy in the 1200 section in the last year = 0 times :thumb2

Private sales or dealer?

If these are two different private sellersyou may get a better idea by talking to them face to face - if you have not already done that. If they come from a BMW dealer try them both and take the one you like. If is is NOT a BMW delaer I would not touch either!

Heart decisions between 1150 or 1200...

If you honestly plan to drive it off the face of the planet and are willing to perform major repairs on the side of the road... (at this moment it would have to go to the 1150)... but the cost is it's a big tank of a bike....

If you are going to ride it on the street, or do some fancy off-road stuff that requires a lighter more agile bike... especially including sand... Are willing to accept that you may need to get rescued (but not as often as some would have you believe)... The bike feels lighter and more fun (opinion based on relatively little 1150 time)... then the 1200 is your choice...

I love my 1200... I try not to let the doom sayers put me off... I also happen to notice just as many mechanical failures posted in the 1150 section as I see 1200 ones... I'm not afraid to repair it myself, though I acknowledge that some 'common' failures I may not be able to fix... but these failures are also endemic to 1150s... and how many 1150 riders will fix a failed final drive themselves on the side of the road?... not many I submit)

Let us be sensible!

I hadan 1150 for two years (and was delighted with it....until I tried the 1200!) I kept the 1200 for almost 4 years and am collecting a new 1200 in a week's time - they are both very good bikes BUT the 1200 is far better in my humble opinion;

This thread has enjoyed a good response, many thanks everyone.

I have ridden both bikes and they were appealing in diferent ways; the 1150 in a "made in Scotland from Girders" way and the 1200 in a lighter easier to handle way.

I am not the tallest of riders 5' 7 and I found the 1200 even with a standard seat easier to manage at low speed than the 1150 GSA with BMW low seat.

While not 100% decided, I think if the right 1200 came along it would tempt me. I think that at £5.5K, a 40,000 mile 1200 will not fit the bill as I would be buying in the knowledge that something bad may well happen.

Ive now posted in the FS&W section so I guess this thread has probably come to a natural end...

You can view the FS&W without being a sponsor, but try and answer an ad ;)

Just had to make the same choice myself and went for the 1150GSA based on looks as much as anything else. I tend to agree with the seat height challenge, being a little short for the GSA, but a low seat option is up at the front of the shopping list..
