My 14 month old 1200GS just clicks when you press the starter - did a 200 mile trip yesterday so the battery should be fully charged.

Have checked every connector I can see by taking all the side panels off. The starter motor contacts are all tight too.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Regards

Chris

Is the sidestand switch okay - was it wet yesterday or did you wash the bike after the ride?
Just a thought... :nenau

Just clicking sounds like the noise made when the starter solenoid engages bu there isnt enough juice in the battery. Try a set of jump leads. Alternatively, put a digi meter across the battery terminals and check the voltage both when the starter switch isnt being operated and when it is. Should be about 12.7 with no load. Will drop sharply when the starter is engaged so if it stays at 12.7 the starter circuit isnt working (side stand switch, handle bar switch etc) and if it drops to something silly like 5 volts, the battery is sh**ed.

Step 1 take the front seat off.

Step 2 lockate skicker at the bottom edge of the fule tank cover.

Step 3 dial the phone number and wait for BMW Assist :D

On a more serious side, I'm sorry to hear your bike won't start. It fekin pisses me off when that happens. Though I've never had this problembe myself (well not on the gs12).

I was talking to Mat at N.O.G. last week and he mentioned that there is a problembe with the battery going flat if the ignition key is turned off then on then off quite quickly. confeuses the softwear or somthing. an upgrade is shortly avalible.

Just a final thought, if you turn off the ignition, then turn it on again (cos maybe you forgot to look at the milage or some other detail) make it a habbit to start the motor again before you finaly turn off the ignition and leave the bike. This would reset the computor again me thinks :)

Urgent - Bike Won't Start

Thanks very much everbody. I charged the battery for a couple of hours and it started. I did think it might be the sidestand switch and gave it a good clean.

Interesting point about turning the ignition on & off quickly, I did exactly that yesterday afternoon, the OE alarm is very sensitive so if you nudge the bike it goes off. The ignition key disables the alarm when switched on.

Think I'll use the plipper in future.

Will phone Wollaston tomorrow and see what they say, will post their solution.

Never had such a problem with 2 Ducati's, wonder should I trust the GS as much the red bikes?

Chris

Same happened to me in Morocco. Jump started it, all OK since.
