Ok, I have mechanical dyslexia so please, bear with me.

The bike is a 2005 1200 GS. It's fitted with an Akrapovic can (not full system) and K&N filter which have been on for some time (2000 miles).

So, today I'm riding back from work and the bike starts popping (much more than normal) on the overrun. Then I notice in traffic that it sounds more like my old CCM Supermoto.....

At the next set of lights I turned it off and on again and there were no warning lights showing and it started fine.

On the next bit of the trip I noticed that the engine braking has been reduced by about 50%.

I sat astride the bike (at a stand still) and opened the throttle a few times and noticed that the bike was physically moving to the right (I hope readers can understand). It was rocking to the right and almost leaning towards the right.....

As I said, I can turn a spanner and follow instructions but I really am a bit of a biff when it comes to these engine things.

Hope someone can help.

Tim

I can't work out whether this is another p*** take or not, can't tell on this forum these days.
Anyway, at the risk of ridicule, the highlighted part is normal isn't it with all BMW Twin Boxers?

No, it's not a piss take, I've noticed the bike/engine 'rock' but this is pulling to the right.

OK, sorry. There's a few on here that take the mick sometimes and it makes it hard to spot genuine questions at times.

Unfortunately my mechanical knowledge is poor at best. Fortunately this site is full of mechanical masterminds so I'm sure someone will be able to shed some light on the matter soon.

So are you saying that the sideways movement is not the torque reaction you find on all the GS's? It can really pull the bike over if your a bit ham fisted.

I'm wondering if it's a fueling issue. Maybe too much fuel is going, injectors not closing fully, or closing too late, causing the engine to overrun and therefore reduce engine braking, and also producing more unburnt fuel leading to more pops and bangs from the exhaust? Or it could be a throttle position sensor issue  But like I say, I'm no expert so could be way off :nenau

When you come off the throttle do the revs drop back down to idle or stay raised for a while?

No, I've felt the rock when you blip the throttle, I like that bit but the rock is now a 'pull' to the right.....

Sorry if I'm coming across a bit dumb but when you say pull to the right is it a more exagerated torque reaction (rock) or a totally different thing altogether? When you rev the bike at a standstill is it revving the same as before, or revving higher? Also I've edited my post above and asked another question regarding the revs.

It seems to be revving the same if not a bit rougher, it seems as if it may cut out at any time when on idol and the screen shakes more than before. When the bike runs on idol before this, the screen vibrated lots until about 2000rmp when it settled, I understand that is normal.

The rock now just seems to put to the right, it's hard to put into words really.

Rather than the normal left right rocking motion it just rocks to the right.

Sounds like one pot's not firing properly.

Check connections to the EFI, then coils (see the recent rough as phuck thread), then do the 'work around' on the FPC to rule it out (work around instructions were posted on here by Wapping).

At least, that's what I'd be doing :thumb2

Newton's third law demonstrated to the full.....

Looks like I have a lot of searching and learning to do. Lets hope the better half is in a good mood tomorrow, she'll be reading the instructions to me while I attempt to sort this shite out!

It won't let me search for 'FPC' what does it stand for?

Wapping has over 18, 000 posts.......

Might be right hand cylinder about to grenade itself if its that bad. There were a few models around that era that it happened to.

Sounds like I was way off the mark, which doesn't surprise me. If one of the cylinders is on it's way out why would this reduce engine braking?
