Was coming back from a run this morning, and noticed my front suspension was knocking (Wilbers)

I removed the tank and find thart when i compress the suspension,

the shock is lifting 5mm inthe air, and the nut which is clamping the unit is moving with it

Ive removed the nut steel washer and rubber washer, and can confirm the wilburs is hard up against the rubber bush on the underside of the frame,

I slid the steel bush right down to the top of the wilburs and refitted the to rubber bush, i dropped the bike onto the deck to compress the

suspension and tightened it up, its better but still has about 5mm of movement

The only thing i can think of is to either shorten the steel bush so i can tighten the top down more, or put a washer on top of the wilburs on the underside

Any ideas, or have i done something wrong.

Bloody typical i'm due to go roadtrip friday lol

Are you using the origional rubber bush and spacer, ?
It might need a replacement bush, the stiffer shock may be compressing the old rubber more,
Or you are seeing the play that the old shock damping didnt trigger ,
A spacer washer like a 1/2 inch tap back nut rubber washer might help until you have time to go further,

The original bush is set up for the hard factory length shock the bush is very long

The wilburs has a longer threaded portion, consiquently the steel bush is stopping the washer and rubber bush before it can grip and compress

i've shaved 3mm of the bush and now it bottoms againt top surface of the shock and will allow the nut to come down a bit more and nip everything

up

i will order a new set of rubber bushes & steel bush tommorow

Edit, i swapped the bushes round, the lower was quite compressed, it's gone back together ok now, i will order new bushes and go from there

Odd design,

Not helped by the rubber bushes

In hind sight, i should have put a washer accross the top of the Wilburs top mount,

Which is on the underside lol that way the loads would have been spread accross the rubber bush face, instead of concentrated in the middle

I'll order 2 new bushes washers and sleeves tomorrow

( my parts fella is going to think his numbers have come up, the amount ive spent over the last week lol)

No harm done if the bushes are old,
So the base of the stud is much smaller than the origional tenting up in the centre,
Seems odd wilbers didnt include a suitable base washer,

The wilburs were bought 3rd hand so there may have been a washer originally

The bush was too long so i couldnt compress onto the rubbber bush with the washer. It was proud of the rubber washer by 3mm

I'm not saying it 's perfect, but should see me through the next 1500 miles
