USD forks for the Dakar

Progress

Well, I'm nearly there. I had the axle, spacer, nut, stem spacer, calliper hanger and lift links made by a local engineering company. Most of it had been fitted a couple of weeks ago but I've been waiting for the odd little part. The only part I'm now waiting for is a new brake line which is on order. Other than that, I'm going to take the forks apart and fit new seals. I need some new springs but may just cut down the existing ones and fit a spacer until I can find the correct weighted ones. In time I'll either get a new rear shock or have the oem one rebuilt and sprung for my weight.

Rally Moto Sprint at Sweet Lamb next Sunday is looking like it will be it's first outing.... :eek :D

Would it be possible to get a drawing for the calliper hangar. For the Axel kit I've found already.

Greetings from Polar Circle

There may be a part already available for this, have a look in the xchallenge /country /moto section, you will be looking for a thread on marzocchi shiver factory forks, Looks to be the same calliper fitting as yours?

rc_mad,

having a F650GS (in Thailand) and would like to 'lift' it with the yz fork. You are mentioning in your post " It's pretty much buy parts and fit" and "I have a couple of drawings which may help with that. There is a couple of companies over in the states included in that link, one does the parts needed to fit the BMW wheel and brake caliper, the other does the revalve and respring of the forks." Would be great if you let me know the companies you mentioned. Would prefer to keep the ABS and brakes like you did it. Thanks for your reply.

I have used the Emig racing triples with this you can fit WP 4860 MXMA forks everything is pretty much off the shelf

Then there is the WRF or YZ450 F conversion with custom parts from down under
Get in touch with Aquatic on ADVrider forums he is a pretty helpful guy

But the triples still have to be machined to fit the Dakar for the YZ/WR 450F forks
Below is just some of the bolt on parts he make you retain the existing wheel, brakes and fender

I think you will find that the BMW triples will work with the YZ forks, as long as you go with the early ones, I think it's the 46mm ones, the only issue is fitting the ignition switch/steering lock. But Speak nicely to Craig (Aquatic) as he has the ability to modify the YZ TOP YOKE, by cutting off the BMW ignition mount from the BMW yoke and welding it on. He did mine recently, all of his work is top quality.

A bit of a thread resurrection!

The 46mm Kayaba forks will not fit into the BMW triples as the KYB forks are usd forks and BMW are damper rod so the other way up! The steering head bearings are a similar spec though.

I designed and had a replacement top clamp made a couple of years ago.
