Hi All.

I've gone and used some of the spray wash stuff (Deamon I think it was called).

I noticed very quickly that the clip that fastens the rear brake lever had furred up with a white powdery residue. By this time I noticed it the wheels had also gone dull and have a white tinge.

I quickly sprayed loads of water over the bike for 10 mins or so and have sprayed the bike libraly with Scotoil 365 protectant just to make sure if it's salt in the stuff that I have neutralised anything left.

I'm not even sure if one or two fasteners have corroded a bit, I might be getting a bit paranoid about that, but to say I'm not happy is an understatement.

Does anyone have any ideas/ tips for removing the white tinge?

Cheers

Richard

Wd40 spray it on and rub it in. It's alkaline in the cleaning agent. Might take a while to get off though.

Cheers for the WD40 tip. I'll have ago with that tomorrow.
I've sprayed half a bottle of Scotoil on the bike so hopefully that'll stop any worsening of the situation. :-/
Cheers
Richard

Alkali and aluminium don't mix. Add some stainless screws (or spokes) and the trouble grows.
ACF-50 is an insulator so probably the best to stop the rot continuing. .

The same reason you 'contribute' to any AT thread......shooting fish in a barrel .... :D

No I don't. Most of my comments in the AT threads are positive, if you care to take a proper look. Most of your threads in the GS sections are just trolling, and pathetic. You obviously have an inferiority complex.:comfort

There is no short cut or easy route to a mint bike

It takes elbow grease and not magic potions

I couldn't agree more. This old adage applies to most things:

Good and cheap isn't fast,
Good and fast isn't cheap,
Fast and cheap isn't good.

To the OP, as others have said, it's a chemical reaction. You might be lucky and be able to wash off the residue if it's only the very surface that's affected. You may need to polish the surface if it has gone a bit deeper. If you're unlucky and it has gone down deep into the surface, you'll need to get the parts re-chromed, resprayed or replaced.

I had this when using Muck Off on my 1150 GSA. All the black parts went grey.
I now use SDoc 100 gel cleaner. Amazing stuff. Available from Infinity Motorcycles. Doesn't leave any residue at all.

I was literally just about to clean the gs. I have some deamon or muck off.
Looking for some SDoc 100 on tinternet.
Thanks for posting.

SDoc 100 gets my vote, I've used muck off and the WD40 cleaner and both can effect the paint and plastics if left on too long.

SDoc100 products are brilliant. They do a chain cleaner which works in the same way; spray it on, leave it for 10-15 minutes, use a brush if it's very dirty, then watch the transformation! They also do a chain lube, and guarantee virtually no flick, and I have to say, it's the best one I've used over the years, by far.:beerjug:
