Bought a F800GS with an approved 'warranty' from Ocean Plymouth with 3000 miles on the clock. Water pump housing leaking but BMW wont fix it due to their fitters not finding leak. Did notice leaking rocker cover gasket which they could replace but not under warranty. Now clutch has gone which is also not covered by warranty. Crap dealer, crap warranty, crap bike. Due to leave for Italy in two weeks time and having to buy another motorcycle for journey. Good old Japanese.....proper bikes, proper warranties

Ouch. I thought i had a bad experience with BMW Customer services. You without a doubt top that. I'm surprised how a bike that you brought from them with so little miles went wrong so quickly. Maybe you have a dodgy bike (sorry that doesn't help) however mine has been fine for the last 4,000 miles. Real shame hopefully they will sort it out pal. :thumb

This will be a short stay then? :nenau

I too have given up on these "unstoppable" motorcycles and gone back to Jap stuff. Cheaper to service, no need to extend warranties and no worries when going further than your own postcode.

Don't expect too much sympathy around here though.

Odd, I've been using Ocean for years - never had an issue with warranty work or any other work they've carried out for me - always had excellent service from them. :nenau

Suggest you write to BMW - there may be help there (though probably not before you go off on your trip)

How long have you had the bike? Sale of goods act.....:rob

I suspect that your view of Ocean is probably far more representative of Ocean's customers that the OP's....Ocean have a very good reputation......second only maybe to Rainbow's Oop North.

It may be my cynical nature but I think there's more to this first post rant than meets the eye.

Mmm, what more do you think there is to this than the first post?? Maybe I have imagined everything and I am just attention seeking!! Did you mean 'OAP's ??

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.I was always very sceptic about BMWs but so far my experience is completely different.I've got the bike from Williams Manchester and up to now I had only two issues.
First time it was the rocker cover gasket-replaced withim three days,no questions asked.
Second time I had the leaking water pump which was again immediately replaced for a new one.Somehow the new pump(new design too) appeared to leak as well.Rang the dealer after I came back from my continental trip, water pump replaced,no questions asked.

I think he ment OP (original poster, ie the person who started the thread)

Nick, If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you should mention to Ocean the rules pertaining to the Sale of Goods act, especially the rules relating to being fit for purpose, which from the sound of your bike it most definitely isnt.
You say you got the bike with 3000 miles on the clock. May I ask what mileage the clutch decided to pop its clogs at, because if it was a small mileage after you got it, then I do think you should be a bit more forceful with them.

Not ideal I know,Have to say i know what its like to be messed about, and here's hoping Ocean dont want to lose you and will put everything right....

SEEEE I TOLD YOU I WAS AN OPTIMIST...

HTH.

I suppose "attitude" comes into this,if you go in with a it`s you`re fault bloody fix it attitude it will get peoples backs up.I have found a quiet reasonable chat with the service manager works wonders.Point out what the problems are and ask if BMW will do the repairs under goodwill, the dealer should ask on you`re behalf.I feel for you as knowing you are right but convincing a dealer to spend money!!!!By the way I`m not suggesting for one moment that you had "attitude".

Good luck and keep us posted.

I often wonder why people go to their dealers/mechanics with all guns blazing...How would you like it if someone came to your place of work and had a right go at you.......
Talking and explaining in a polite manner with a little give and take goes along way...
There is a few things in the world that is totally free and has the power to open doors..................a smile.....the word please and the word thankyou..
Be patient and mind your manners..Smile and the world smiles with you...Also try listening for a change, listen to what they have to say and digest their story...Try it, it works.
Also, ask their names, to be on a first name basis with that person helps as does a handshake...

Were you wanting a reply to this or is it just a statement?

You don't say how many miles the bikes done or what sort of use it's had just you bought it with 3000 miles on it

Take it to another dealer would be my advice and see if they can fight your corner for some 'goodwill' payment by BMW towards the repairs

That said if its had a hard life been dropped and wheelied then you may struggle as its wear and tear

So I presume the whole point of this was to moan, enjoy you're proper bike:rolleyes:

Nothing new about Ocean. That's why I ride past them and on to CW. Nothing but hassle from them. Charged for work that has not been done to being told that I do not know what I'm talking about (over 6 mm runout in the hub carrier "perfectly normal sir") to waiting over 6 weeks for a part to come in to find it was the wrong one ( nothing to do with you Matt:thumb2) and limited communication. Hounded with messages to get my tyre changed as it was noted that the tourance was below 4 mm at the service. They have left me with a very bitter taste but apparently "they all do that sir"
......and relax!

The point was to make a statement about crap bikes, crap warranties and crap dealers. Good luck with your second rate motorcycles.
