I'm going away in July and camping most (all?) of the time I'm away.
I've various bits that need charging at the end of each day. iPhone, Drift camera, camera remote & Sena SMH5 intercom.
I can charge a couple of them as I ride along. I also have a battery pack to use.
May be a silly question, but, would it be OK to use the bike battery to charge the Sena when I've stopped for the evening? I was thinking of fitting a USB charging point wired direct to the battery so it's always live.
I can't imagine charging the Sena would drain the bike battery.

Why not put a USB adaptor in your accessory socket?

OK if charging overnight you'd need to be sure the canbus won't turn it off.

Or you could use the socket to charge a battery pack whilst riding and then use this to charge your sena overnight.

This is what I plan to do. Just asking in case I need to charge something when I stop.
My accessory socket turns off after 30 seconds.

Rechargeable battery pack should be favourite then you don't need to leave stuff on the bike which could be pinched and no worries about flattening the battery.

I do this with my Sena all the time. I just put a wire to a twin USB weatherproof socket just in front of the left pannier, directly off the battery and with its own fuse. I then put a small switch sticking out thro the small compartment under the seat so that you can kill the power to it when not in use. Works very well and I actually use it to charge up the battery pack whilst riding and then use that to charge all my stuff up over night

You will be fine, I put a USB socket under my seat and use it to charge my Scala overnight with no problems at all.
Also people seem worried about the drain of a USB being permanently live.
The absolute longest my bike goes is 7 days without starting but I have never had a problem with the USB being constantly live.

I think it might stay live if something is connected to it when you turn off.

Im not sure this is the case, thats why if you are using a bMW canbus charger through the accessory point you need to turn on ignition, start charger then switch off. The can bus charger then sends a signal to keep the socket switched on.
Only know this from experience of charging a GS

Eh? Is this correct?

That's how I understand it.

You can see it in action: plug in your BMW charger to a stationary bike -nothing happens. then switch on the bike power, switch it off again - and the charger starts and continues to charge the battery through the socket.

Not my experience....ride bike into workshop, turn off and when I think about it plug in the Optimate and off it flashes. If I'm working on the bike and the lead is in the way, pull it out of the socket on the dash, when I'm done, plug it back.

As regards the OP-I wouldn't be buggering about. Charge a power bank during the day, use it to charge several devices at night.

But there have been occasions where batteries have been flattened as things were left plugged in to the power socket, which stayed live when the bike was turned off. I assume the canbus reads the state of the socket and if it's connected it stays live.
I have a flying lead wired direct the battery for an optimate. I connect a short lead with a cigarette lighter socket to that if I want to charge a phone etc.

My experience as well. Maybe the others are not using an optimate 4?

I use a power bank bought from amazon. It being charged in my tank bag from the battery as I ride, plus I have further three USB ports available inside of tank bag (givi power hub setup) to charge GoPro batteries and so on if I need to. When fully charged, power bank will charge my equipment 3 nights on the trot. I change my iPhone of the accessories socket on the bike and at the end of the day it is fully charged for my use.
