got this lid in August and it was quite simply the best lid I ever owned. Since the crap weather has come, it's been the worst helmet I've ever owned.

The visor doesn't create a good seal with the helmet. Rain water gets pushed in, and the visor mists up really bad even though it has the nanotech coating inside...

I've got an ongoing issue with the distributor at the moment and am seeking a replacement. My lid has already been back to UVEX for them to 'repair' it, but it didn't sort the problem out.

Not impressed. For a lid that costs nearly £500, I'd expect it to do what it says on the tin, but it doesn't.

If you're thinking of getting one....beware!

Hi

I to have a new Uvex Enduro, and have only worn it three times it has now been back to Germany via Tran Am the UK dist, via Smart Riders who I bought it of the visor will not close with a gloved hand! And yes they have replaced my helmet Twice!!! But I fear the changes will not work? I have just recived a nother brand new one now just returned and this time it looks like it may well close, not been out on the bike wearing this helmet yet as they forgot to send it with xxl cheek pads.

Great stuff, I'll be in touch and give you my email address. If I don't get a satisfactory result from them this time, I'll be pushing for a full refund as the helmet I bought is not fit for purpose in that it is sold as a none fogging helmet, but fogs up pretty bad. I'd call that mis-selling on a grand scale. There are lots of lids available with pinlock which is proven to work (I know because I've had them) so I got the UVEX in confidence thinking it would do what it said on the tin....

Good god…there’s a naked bloke here flashing his helmet….NWS???
:augie

bugger - I was after one of the non carbon ones, this has somewhat altered my plans. Can you see if the visor seals well or not, or do you need to ride it before you know?

In terms of fogging, I'd stick a fog city in anyway.

cheers

Markie

Thanks for the heads up guys

I retail said helmets but not very many and so far only the standard non-carbon versions
All customer have been over the moon with those

Think I'll remove the carbon version from sale for now, pending further info, don't want that kind of hassle or upset customers

Thanks nharrisn / Cupid,

Might have a wander down to Smartriders as that seems to be my nearest stockist.

Cupid - where are you in South Wales? My mother in law is down in Carmarthen and there's a "small" chance I might be down that way before Christmas, could always swing off the M4 to check them out.

Cheers

Grab yourself a bargain at Biker Land...

http://www.biker-land.de/products/en/Helmets/Motocross-helmets/UVEX-ENDURO-CARBON.html

It's hit or miss as to whether you get a good one or not though with this lid I'm afraid......

It is really strange..
I bought mine, a UVEX carbon enduro helmet, last February from Germany...and I don't have any problem....
yes...it doesn't close immediately...it requires one click...which leaves the visor really close to the helmet....just so much open that the air comes through..and another click to close totally....
as for the visor...it is more possible that my glasses will have the fog (I paid extra to have anti-fog layer on them...anti-glance...anti-computer..anti-...I don't know how many anti- I put on them..) than the visor....
so...how you clean your visor?? I always use the things that you use to clean computer screens...did you clean them with the classic way of hot water..and you destroyed the anti-fog layer that the visor has?? did you hit the helmet on the connectors?? or did you removed the connector and now it is not put back correctly.... (for example...the first time that I tried to wear it as a motorcross helmet...I didn't put correctly back the connector, with result to lose it...)

PS: I don't try to be clever and I am not related with any seller.....

Thanks for the posts regarding the UVEX lids.

It seems that the camp is split 50/50 down the middle, either very happy with no problems, or miffed off having 'faults'.

I think the helmet itself is fantastic. Definately the most comfortable helmet I've ever had, the lightest, and one of the quietest too. I'm starting to think it's pot luck whether you get a good one or a defective one though.

I've asked the dealer to sort out a new replacement, hopefully Tran Am will accept this. If I end up with a good one, then the jobs a good'n. If I have the same problems, then I'll keep it and just use it during warmer, drier months...

Will let you know how it pans out.....

I will be going on a bike ride this Friday and I will be wearing my 2nd replacement UVEX carbon and yes I agree a very comfortable helmet, but mine has never closed tight unless you take it off and use two hands and shove it real hard from the top of the visor. Also they fogged up like mad! No I did not abuse them or clean the visor wrong? .....

In Smartriders defence as you know the "Bottom line of...................
" "FIT FOR PURPOSE"
comes down to the place where you purchased it from. Matt at Smart riders has been very very obliging and as soon as my xxl cheekpads arrive I will fit them and give the lid a dam good testing " REMEMBER this one has come Direct from UVEX Germany after they checked it with the known issues!!

I will keep the forum posted co's like many I love the style and the weight of the helmet but its all no good if it fogs up and visor dont close especialy as its bloody Winter!

Hi,

I said I would report back after riding with Uvex Helmet number 3!
Remember this helmet has come direct from the factory in Germany set up for me to use.
Although they forgot the xxl size cheek pads which i prefer in a xl helemt..... anyway yesterday (Saturday 12/12/09 I rode a couple of hundred miles using the UVEX straight out of box.

1. we set off at 8.00 and there was a nip in the air to say the least.... after riding down our lane onto a D restricted road I closed the visor " Well I tried to " Yet again the visor does not close there is a gap on the right hand side of the visor and it looks on the piss!

2. I put up with it and continued in very cool weather to ride all the time pressing pushing and trying "with gloved hands to close the small gap, even pressing in the middle of the visor to see if it would just seal! But NO!

3. By this time the visor was so steamed/fogged up I had no option but to leave it open, burrrr Cold! I attempted again after a mile or so to close it But the fogging up continued I could not see! I stopped and removed my specs so I could just see if it was anything to do with the special coating on them. " No as I rode off the visor misted up and the only way to stop it was ride with it well up! " Not what you need on a very cold morning!

4. After meeting up with some IAM friends we went on a ride after coffees the weather had warmed up a little and other than a little condensation arounf the nose/mouth area inside the so called closed visor it seemed to be less fogging and a little better.

5. When we stopped for full English after about 90miles riding we all examined and commented on the Carbon Fibre lid and I have to say I love the design but NO WAY is this helmet fit for purpose......... I dont want my money back I just want the helmet to be what is is sold and manufactured to be!

Conclusion "I will be talking to Matt at Smart Riders" Monday where the helmet came from via Tran Am

Big D :((

I admire your patience Big D. But if I was having these problems with a helmet, I would be inclined get a refund. Then go and buy Arai TourX3, which is an outstanding Enduro stylie lid (if you have an Aria shaped of course:augie).

good luck with helmet #4
:mmmm

What a shame . .the thing looks so cool.

Just goes to show how a product we perceive to be "simple" can be done so wrong.

I am sticking with my Shoei :thumb2

Although if I get my eyes lazered ... I will get a nice Arai Viper :D

Uvex Enduro Carbon.

Got this lid in Sept. Initially it wouldn't seal, took it back to shop and they adjusted the side pods- two screws each side visible with visor and peak removed. loosen and adjust downwards, tighten screws and check seal.
It completely cured the problem.

My anti-fog coating lasted a couple of months, now I treat it once a week inside with Shift it anti fog, and daily outside with a water repellant spray (forget which one).

I have to say, once the sealing mechanism was adjusted I have been nothing but delighted with mine.

BTW I use my bike (GS 800) as transport and commute 60 miles a day, all weathers. A guy I know (GS 1200) has the same lid and has no problems at all, didnt even need adjusting.:jeiger
