Having been told the V9 maps in the for sale section will not loadup on my old streetpilot 3, what are the latest maps for the SP3 ? it had V7 on it when i got it.

I stand to be corrected, but my understanding is that V9 will work on an SPIII, but V9 NT won't. My understanding is that the normal (ie non NT) version should be ok. If I'm wrong, I apologise.
If you go onto the Garmin website, I'm pretty sure that when you click on the different Map versions, it also gives you a list of compatible GPS units.

They were Version 2009 which is not the same as V9. I am pretty sure V9 will work fine on the SPIII. BTW 30 quid for a 2009 with official unlock code was a bit of a bargain, me thinks...
Well the Garmin site asks which satnav then lists the map options available, unfortunatly it does not list the streetpilot 3, bloody hell this is complicated, so there are V9 maps and 2009 maps then NT versions, feckme . I have got as far as loading the op software on me pc with the v5 maps, havent connected the SP3 yet or loaded the v7 maps (on the streetpilot already) cos don't want to cock it up till i know what i am doing. This has also stopped me buying a 550 or is the 550 a lot easier to deal with ?
With TT you just upload the maps (UK / Europe etc) and its all in there, ST3 seems to have individual cities in it
For info i am also on the 1st page of the excellent tutorial in this very section
I bought an SP3 with CN Europe V-7 and got CN V-8 free. Got a second unlock code for my 276C.
Feckin best money ever.
Often wondered about the V9 too, as Ireland mapping took a big jump then.
Let us know how you go?

You need glasses my friend. Firstly, have a look at the maps available HERE. When you click on CitNavigator - Europe (HERE) NOT the CityNavigator NT version - then go the bottom of the description and click on "Click the Products tab to see whether this map is compatible with your Garmin device" you get a list of compatible products. Scroll down and the SPIII is there in glorious technicolour virtually at the bottom of the list.

I think they changed the name which may have confused you. Rather than have Version 9, it was named CityNavigator 2009 IIRC. The next one will probably be CityNavigator 2010 etc as they seemed to update annually - give or take a bit.
The Mapsource allows you to download "individual cities" because the maps for the whole of Europe won't fit on the card for the SPIII, so you'll have to pick which maps suit your trip and download those. Incidentally the "Mapsets" are bigger than "individual cities" but lets not nit-pick for now eh?
Bear with it and it will click. When it does, there will be no stopping you.
