Valeo starter questions

There's a grinding noise coming from the starter when activated. Stripped it down and magnets are OK. Did a bench test and solenoid seems to be doing its job, chucking the pinion in. Looks like its the epicyclic gears. So ...

1. Can these be replaced or serviced?
2. If they are toast and cannot be replaced, what are my options for a replacement starter? (Leaving aside the obvious sources such as Motobins and Motorworks) It used to be possible to buy cheap-ish German sourced replacements from Ebay? Looks like that source has gorn!

Not I, but ask him what the guarantee period is.
Been in business for 20 years. Feedback all good apart from 1 person that seems to have ordered the wrong thing and left a negative in the last year.

I have a spare recon Valeo starter motor. I took it from my R100gs and had it reconned locally, never used it as I splashed out on one of those Nippon Denso units. I'm in Edinburgh this weekend, I'll leave it with you, if your happy with it give me forty of your Scottish pounds, if not leave it with my pal up there.
