I'm planning to sell my '79 R80/7. I'd thought of asking about £1500 for it but having just looked on ebay they seem to be going for considerably more. As anybody who's seen it at Airhead Weekend will testify, it's not restored in any manner form, its just a good old plodder. I think I've ironed out it's bugs. Any (serious) suggestions of what I ought to ask for it?

There seems to be plenty of variation according to how "hip" you are, want to be, or avoiding like the plague...

At the mo the early ones are a hit over the Mono's for "hipstering" as they are already a bit older and cooler... RT/RS's are in some strange hinterland where the price can vary approx. 300% and already hipstered/ruined bikes or "unfinished projects" as they are often called, are from expensive to positively snorted solvents fantasy land...

Obviously, you will probably want to sell it... If it's average and average miles then £1500 seems fair... If it has more good points than bad and is above average condition then try a wee bit higher...

I have had 2 RT's over the past couple of years... £850 and £950... Both were needing a couple of fixes or high miles and I thought it was good or about right...

Obviously GS's went fairly stratospheric a few years ago and have remained there...

As long as they actually sell then eBay is a good rule of thumb but follow a handful to check they are not just flag flying exercises for the sellers ego...

Ok thanks for that, I'll watch a few sales go through and see how much they really go for. The R100R's got to go too, but I think I've got a fair idea of the value of that.
Cheers

£1500 sounds too cheap for what is a pretty good bike of the period - better in many ways than a Bonnie... Maybe also going a bit higher might dissuade a few of those who will immediately set about it with angle grinder and exhaust wrap?
