Valve clearances on the 2010 GSA

12000 mile service is now due and am not paying £430 for the privilege

valve adjustment seems fairly straightforward on the camhead but can not find what the actual clearances should be, anyone know

any experiences gratefully received, ie do the clearances tend to tighten up on this model, do the dealers freely sell the shims etc

Valve Clearances

I have not completed this task yet, but it does look easy on the 10 models.
The clearances are:
Inlet Valve Clearance Engine Cold Max 35c 0.13...0.23mm
Exhaust Valve clearance Engine Cold Max 35c 0.30...0.40mm

If they are shimmed like jap bikes they'll hardly ever need doing

I suspect that's more to do with Jap bikes being 'proper' OHC rather than 'cam in head'. Early Suzuki Bandits were screw-and-locknut adjustment and they hardly ever needed doing.

Vines, the annual was done early at the 6000 mile service

For what its worth, just had the 24,000 mile service done on my 2010 GS - thus far no valve adjustments required

Vines, the annual was done early at the 6000 mile service

Woolastons quoted me £300 for 12,000 service, got it done for £180 at Adventure Bike Warehouse Manchester, Jono even removed all the pads to clean, dealers don't do that!

Valve clearances ok too!

just had the 12k service done (bike at 15k) , told that ex valves very slightly out

I prob wont look at valves again until 30k?

charged £250 (parts used were all 3 oils plus eng filter, total £70), labour seems about right esp as the FD had to be dropped to change the oil.

BMW went through a phase of FDs being 'sealed for life' (other than a change ater the first 600m), no drain plug, so you have to remove it to drain it

my 2010 has a drain plug underneath and a filling hole behind the disc

mines an 06, i think this BMW 'idea' only lasted a year or 2
